Stuff you hate that young people like.

Bah, fine with me. The more people who think that being educated is uncool, the sooner the universities will empty out, and it can go back to being the pretentious, ivory tower of academia that it used to be, with none of the idiots ruining classes and disrupting the environment. :ninja:

I agree with that and it is one of the reasons that I dropped out. I hated how it turned into a place to train for four years then get a job. Instead, university should be a place of higher learning; which it no longer is.

Instead, university should be a place of higher learning; which it no longer is.

People have been trotting out this chestnut for decades. School (of any sort) is what you make of it. I spent ten years as a working class zero, while flirting with academia. A few years ago, I made a lifelong commitment to school and as result, I've been able to engage in learning styles and situations that I could not have conceived of previously. Anyone who claims that a university is not a place of higher learning isn't looking very hard.

I AM that big, burly "Tejano" cook at Juan In A Million! And I don't call burritos wraps. I call burritos burritos ... and I'm non-violent ... and resent the implication.
Texans wrap lots of food. I dare you to walk up to the order counter at Juan In A Million (burritos) and tell their big, burly Tejano cook that he makes "queer" food.

Go on! Go in there and tell him his burritos are queer. I wanna watch this.

Man, where do I begin (granted I would still be considered part of the youth of today by most people)?

- The inability to both spell correctly and form grammatically proper statements
- The stupid looking fashions
- Mainstream music, for the most part
- This recent "green" fad(/marketing scam)

There's much more, but those are the ones that come to mind right now.

Reading through many of these posts, I see a lot that my parents generation may have said about me and my peers. They didn't like our music, our clothes or hair styles, and we didn't work hard enough. I can even imagine the same things being said in the stone age. However, we live in an accelerated society and the changes between generations can get quite big now.

While I don't care much for the new commercial music, there is some good music still being written and performed. Today's kids do seem to be less active, but a large part of this is their parents fault. A millenium ago, when I was young, we could just go out and play and start a pick-up game of football, baseball, basketball, or whatever. Now it seems to play these kinds of sports, one must join a team and suffer through "adult supervision". Why can't we just let our kids go out and play? Sure, bad things can happen, but our current security and safety bent is something I find intolerable.

Also, in the name of getting messages out quickly, we seem to force people into changing gears quickly and this fuels the lack of attention span that is so prevalent. Do we really need to feed this monster with Twitter?

I still like many of the kids today and recognize that the issues they face are rather large. I imagine that it is much harder to fit in with certain groups today and be able to hang out with neighborhood friends as we are a fairly fractured society. This fracture extends to the young in ways that increase pressure on the kids and while some here seem to want to romanticize the 1950's - they're just not coming back.

But I never liked Kool-Aid and no longer like Hawaiian Punch - I guess that makes me a geezer.

Didn't metalcore come from hardcore, though? ;)
Indeed. "Hardcore" has been around since 1979 or so. When metalcore first came about in the early '80s, it was called speed metal or thrash metal for years before that term was used. Now pardon me while I fetch my Chuck Taylors and cane...

You said you hate old people in Old People thread.

Maybe you just like middle-aged people or something. I would start a thread about that, but it's not necessary. So I wont start it.

I'm misanthropic. The particular modifier doesn't really matter.

Plus I just wanted to see if anyone would catch that. Congrats. If I ever see you I'll buy you a Coke.
