Most of the stupid stuff I heard was the game either being referred to as either the USA vs the UK or the USA v Britain.

Let me add this..........
Why don't they cut the field down to about half the size so there might be some action and chance of scoring........like more than 1-1

why is that dumb.....none of my contemporaries played soccer,even though the gym teachers tried to force it on us.....if soccer is the biggest game in the world,the world can have it,and i'll see ya at nfl kick off in the fall...........football has 4 quarters,ice hockey 3 periods,baseball 9 innings.........if you don't know you don't know........until you ask
Association Football, which is shortened to 'soccer' or for everywhere (as far as I am aware) apart from Australia and the USA football
....and you can't say this with out an appreciation of the game, but nothing wrong with a good scoring draw!
Because it's only possible to have 4 quarters or no quarters. A quarters is a fourth. There are four quarters in a whole. You can't have three quarters in a whole game. Life doesn't work like that. That's why it's a stupid question.

You haven`t played soccer before have you?
If you were to cut the field in half the players would be cluttered and they`d resort to essentially the same style of soccer 8 year old kids play. Plus, basically every keeper (goalie) in soccer is able to punt beyond half field. The field is 120 meters for a reason

IMHO, there's too little scoring and too much time spent running the length of the field for it ever to be a popular sport in the US. We need constant action to stay amused
I only see two stupid questions there, and one of them is excusable since a lot of Americans probably don't even know what the World Cup is.
Ah but it is arguably the most played sport in the US. I'm probably the least athletically inclined and even I played organized soccer as a kid.
EDIT: I appear to be wrong. Meh oh well.
I think it's a pity that soccer doesn't get more support in the US, especially considering that the US has quite a respectable team. I remember seeing the US in the World Cup 20 years ago, and quite honestly, the level of play was a bit embarrassing. Compared to that, they've come a very long way, and IMHO it's a testament to the quality athletes that the US produces.
I watched the England vs USA game at an English pub in Tokyo with my English friends. I was outnumbered by about 10 to 1 by English fans, but I cheered my ass off for the US. It was really a friendly "piss-taking" session (pardon my "English") back and forth by the fans of both sides, and I fully expected the US to get their ass kicked by England, but to my surprise, the score held up 1 - 1.
Anyway, I personally support the US team, not out of patriotism, but more because the team and the sport of soccer itself in the US is an underdog.

i only hope that soccer/football will never get popular at the USA. they will split it into quarters, take timeouts every 5 minuets for TV commercials and take all the fun, drama and action out of the game.
i watching now the NBA final game and cant understand how they make 48 minuets long game into nightmarish 3 hour bubble gum telenovella..

In soccer the play never stops unless either a foul occurs or the ball is kicked out of bound. Compare that to baseball where plays never occur unless the ball is hit or football where plays only last 10 seconds and then take another 30 second to set back up, soccer is completely constant and demands not only the players constant attention but the viewers as well just to know what`s going on.
The action isn`t in the goal - it`s the entire process working towards getting the goal. That`s what most Americans don`t understand. You can have a great game that ends up tied 0-0 and an absolutely horrible game that ends up being 3-7. The points are irrelevant (but are, of course, nice to have).
I also wouldn`t underestimate soccer. It`s currently (and has been for some years) the most popular and played game of America`s youth. I`d bet you almost anything that within 25 years soccer will rival if not completely trump football and baseball in popularity. The only thing that has a chance to stop that is advertising companies and their influence on sports channels. They don`t care for games that have constant action, unlike football and baseball
maybe only a poorly worded question.....stupid only if you take the most literal meaning..........the answer could very well be "the game is divided up into halves,not quarters"..........why look for opportunities to come down on someone for not knowing something

the low scores are not the problem to me.....it's the lack of variety in skills......hands are not allowed,everyone can run...it's hard to see any shift from defense to offense,as it all appears the same......ice hockey is basically the same game,but you have to develop a few skills before you can play,football and baseball involve a lot of different skillsFair enough, but I think our definition of action differs quite a bit

the reason it is gaining in popularity here seems to be more about the convenience of parents who need not buy any gear,kids who don't really have to develop any skills to play,and immigration from countries where the game is popular.....

what part don't you like.....i'm not sure what part of that implies ignorance,except ,of course your post.....lots of soccer moms appreciate not buying gear
check out any kids playing soccer....a third of the players will be scratching their butts
unless you know a little about the game it is difficult to pick out individual skills
perhaps you could check out the changing demographic of your community
