Yes, the earliest versions of Submarine (maybe the first 20 or so) didn't have boost. The gain was at unity regardless of the input signal.
Needless to say, I can mod it for free to your liking (boost - no boost - some boost). Just shoot a PM to my way.
This is by far my most favorite pedal. The circuitry would make a killer DI pedal. Two foot switches, a Fingerstyle setting and a Slap setting. Simple and sounds so good.
