This may cause some mocking to come my way: I just mentioned a few years ago I Managed a High End Home Audio Store and was ruthlessly attacked here even Andy shared his disdain for that Industry
which I know was justified in general but now at 71 what the hell
I always loved Music and Gear that played it and was always a 'Serious' listener so to speak not just hearing
before working at store
Just one story:
I was setting up our main Showroom equipment used
was $5000 Linn Turntable/Arm with $800 Linn cartridge
$20,000 Linn CD player machined from solid block of Aluminum at Rolls Royce Factoty
$10,000 each Mark Levinson Preamp and Amp
17,000 a pair Revel Speakers
$10,000 pair of Revel Subwoofers
It took me 8 hours to set up moving speakers and subs a millimeter at a time and trying different audio and speaker cables until I heard the Sound I wanted using all types of music from basic LP's, Direct to disc LP's, basic CD's and Mobile Fidelty ones
The cost of cables was similar to cost of Sadowsky NYC now and this was early 90's
I wasn't at Cult level but fully immersed in High End community
We had a few well to do customer's from Northern Virginia/DC that would buy a system from me then fly me out to their Area and back pay me $100 an hour from time I left my house to when I got home
to set up system in their Home
My personal home system was much more modest in dollar and cents maybe 7K retail all Linn equipment and enjoyed as much if not more than system above
The point yes I understand your 9v vs 18v dilemma
