Subway cabs any good?

To revisit the original premise of the thread... yes, they're (Mesa cabs) GOOD/GREAT! I played my last gig with a heavy-hitting drummer (26" kick) and a guitar player running through a 100 watt Marshall and 412 cab. They were both FOH and I was not. Straight out of the cabs. I had people telling me the bass was drowning things! Nuff said.

I hear ya. I played last Friday after getting the amp in Wednesday and sound checking the 610 volume at 9. Hooked up the the 118 and dropped to 6 or 7 . Never has the 118 sounded that good. Ran the 610 on the guitar side. Every amp I've had just seemed to be drowned out. Planning on the 215 and putting the black widow by the guitar and drummer, we'll see

That may be a good plan. Happy to hear you're having a good experience. I don't recall ANY Mesa (Subway) cab/amp owners with complaints. Nearly all rave reviews! And their customer service is 2nd to none.

Thanks for the replies, think I'll save up for the 215 cab, see how it compares to the 18. That 18 is remarkably loud and full and clear compared to the 610. I was always told to get into the real sub territory you need somewhere around 18 in. Otherwise they're woofers and not subwwoofers, don't know if this is true or not. I'm curious how the peavey will sound compared to the 215. 15 are what most pa use for a reason, why doesn't mesa make a subway 18? Just curious. And again thanks, Trevor
First, you probably don't really want true sub capability but you just don't know it. In fact, that's what the sweep high pass filter is included, so you can ELIMINATE some of the extreme low end and subsonics that tend to muddy the signal up and get in the way of the bass line.

The market for 18" cabinets that deliver the performance that pro 18" drivers are capable of is tiny. Most players do not want that kind of tone, and are also unwilling to deal with the size and weight of a cabinet that would take advantage of what a (pro) 18" has to offer.

It seems to offer the most out of any bass amp I've ever ran. Most amps won't push full capacity until they're in the 2 ohm range. Mesa is supposed to do that at four, but I'm a creature of habit and like to run two four ohm cabs

Most bass amps will not drive 2 ohm loads. I discourage 2 ohm loads because that limits your options for amps in the future (even though the Subway amps will drive it), and many 4 ohm cabinets (like the Peavey 118 in 4 ohm version) can easily be destroyed by the Subway amp if using in 4-8 ohm mode as a stand alone cabinet.

I'd like a Subway 118 4ohm cab please

Not going to happen, it's a tiny fraction of the market that would even consider something like that.

Trevor Nichols HOWDY! New member here. Been searching info on which bass head to buy and with all the research I picked the Mesa TT800. Thought it is a cool little amp and it is. So I put it on top of my svt610 and it seems under powered and murky. Link Removed

So I made sure my 118d was 4 ohm and it is. So installed on the 118d bw equipped and a world of difference.

Tried running both together on 2 ohm and the peavey takes the lead. It's louder, cleaner and cuts through like butter. Looks like I'm gonna need to sell my 610 to help fund some subway speakers.

Has anyone try the subway 210 and 115 cabs together? I would rather run 2 ohms but can live with 4. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks, Trevor
Short answer: YES (all-caps intentional)

Well I ordered the 215 cab and they're out of stock, I'm still waiting on the tt800 foot switch and hoodies lol. Hopefully I'll get them sometime in April and compare the speakers, definitely will use the 215 for gigs. Thanks for the heads-up

We have been faced with supplier delays due to COVID and some unbelievable shipping delays (like no empty shipping containers because many are backed up in the Suez Canal sitting on ships waiting. Then there will be the port delays as they try to unload and route hundreds of thousands of containers. It’s pretty awful for all concerned.

That was my first thought about the blocking of the canal, getting parts and supplies delayed, (Britain?) I'm definitely not canceling my orders, just gonna have to wait. I'll assume you guys are up to your necks in orders with limited supplies, I'm letting you know I'm not griping I understand totally. Thanks, Trevor

With the TT800 into both the SW 112 and 115 I feel tonal bliss. However, having purchased the 112 alone back when it first released, if I had a do-over for a single cab solution I’d personally pick the 115 between the two for its heft. Can’t comment on the 210.

After adding the 115 in subsequent years I feel really excellent balance through the cabs in combo, and a simple tweak of the mids and HPF in both the Boogie and Subway channels will get you to wherever you need to be in the mix.
If I was playing some bigger stages, I would go for the 112 on top of the 115. Bet they kill stacked.

It's going to get worse before it gets better I'm afraid.

I’ll be curious to hear about your cab. I’ve been eying the 215 as well. I play without pa support too. Need a cab that will flap my pants and stand up to my heavy handed slapping.

@agedhorse what happens if you play a cabinet with the ohm switch on the wrong setting by accident?
I didn’t, I was just curious

If the impedance selector is on the 4-8 ohm position with a load less than 4 ohms, it's likely that the amp will enter protection mode and shut down. Protection circuits are very good, but not perfect, so I suggest avoiding this scenario whenever possible.

Well I received 215. I noticed that the wheels should be spaced further apart for more stability. Not a deal breaker. I plugged it in and compared it to the 118. Both cabs are on the same level of volume. Both cabs have the same lows, the 118 has more highs than the 215 but only by a little. All in all it's awesome and I'll keep it on my side of the drummer and move the 118 to the other side by the guitarist and leave it there. During shows I'll just take the 215. Thanks for the help, helping me decide

How’s the loud/ pants flap factor? Will she get rowdy

To tell you the truth, I feel more air from the 118, but the 215 seems to have the same thud, for lack of a better term. The BW aluminum cone seems brighter up top, again for a lack of a better term, but not by much. I think it's a good substitute for an 18. I mean why do most pa systems run 15's? My Cerwin Vegas have 215's as well.

800w is pretty underpowered? Into a 610hlf? Did you turn up your gain knob? I used to run my 610hlf with a 500w ss. I fart that thing out at about half volume. Flat eq.

Most speaker surface for power and volume in a small package. They aren't bass speakers though. They're full range PA speakers.
