Thanks for the help! So far really liking the versatility of the TAFM. The Duality also sounds really really good.

Anyone ever tried an empress fuzz?

I recently got the Empress Multidrive, that has Fuzz, Overdrive, and Distortion channels. All three can be used at once, or any combination. Each channel can be high-passed, low-passed, or left full range (XO point is 500Hz). The box also has master 3-band EQ, with switchable mid freq, and other features. Lots of possibilities with this pedal, and as with other Empress FX (I also own the compressor), it's a high quality unit.

That said: I'm no fuzz expert, just providing the suggestion.

Synthy? Clean? 3 leaf your doom

This. 3leaf Audio's Your Doom is a great synthy fuzz. Really works with different playing styles and dynamics.

If cost is more important than versatility, and a synthy gated fuzz is in your wheelhouse, check out the Mooer Bass Fog. I bought one recently and it does a good job at what it does... Sounds a lot like a zvex Wolly Mammoth.

Synthy? Clean? 3 leaf your doom

When I heard "clean" (which makes me think gated) and synthy I immediately thought You're Doom, Chunk Brown Dog, TAFM or Iron Ether Oxide.

I am looking to try some new fuzzes, here are the attributes I'm looking for.

- Fairly clean and consistent
- Even tone across the bass range
- Little loss to low end

I guess to sum it up, a little more synthy and less screaming overtones all over the place.

Currently use a big muff looped over the bass signal, but its a little more jangle than I want.

How about the idiot box blowers box? I love mine. It can go from light overdrive to full on fuzz grindy mess.

Slightly off topic, but is the primary difference between Fuzz, Distortion and OD just the level of clipping? I tried several fuzz pedals looking for one that wasn't too harsh sounding, and ended up happier with an overdrive

If by "clean" you mean definition, I'd recommend the greystache, I'm no fuzz expert but the fuzzrocious stache made a believer out of me, that midrange knob works wonders, its a muff clone, but even with the tone up it doesn't suck out low end
