Summer Build Off 2022 - Get Ready!

Searching for the Summer Buildoff thread has been on my TB to do list for a few weeks.
What did I miss?

Not much. I didn't see a definitive mention of a theme, but count me in!
Since the WBO, I've cleaned out the garage and learned how to fix a central air unit. Now I really need to get off my butt and get that thickness sander built. And I need to work on finishes that didn't come from the paint aisle at Autozone. (Hey, it worked out really well for the WBO)

I think I could do it if I have all the templates ready. Finishing could be tricky, but I can spray ac lacquer which can be polished the next day. It would require a properly comprehensive drawing which is a weak spot for me at the moment.

Man, I keep seeing this thread pop up and it keeps reminding me that I haven't even started a new drawing. With the start date rapidly approaching, I'm trying to avoid throwing myself into a non-productive death spiral of anxiety and procrastination, but it's a tough battle... so many other things to wrap up around here before I start into a new project. I still have Telecasters to level sand, polish and assemble that I should have completed 2 months ago! Ah well, it's going to be nice weather today, I'll spend it out in the yard. :D

I would would to enter. But I have to finish the bass from the olden days. But before I can do that, I have to finish some stupid house work.

One day we’ll all have smart homes. Then there will be no more stupid houses…

I once heard them referred to as wallet-draining crap factories.
Main problem with smart home technology is security.

Most of the tech that non-wealthy people can afford (or, at least, are willing to buy) are poorly engineered and fantastically insecure, and of the affordable stuff that's reasonably engineered, most are the products from megacorporations that want to use your behavioral data for marketing purposes.* There's some genuinely good reading about the problems if you google for "internet of s---", if you unbleep the bleeped word with a word that is synonymous with "crap".

*(Something I'm not on board with, but doing internet appliance security right is currently so complex and expensive that charging $100 for those friendly tabletop chatty speaker things is loss leader pricing. The companies selling them have to make money somehow, so they're counting on you to buy things through them or just feed them so much information that they can recover the expenses in other ways.)
