If you’re playing with it, it’s a ding-a-ling.
I made a WhatsIt out of Wenge and Purpleheart (and aluminum). Sanded and buffed with Howard's Feed-n-wax, theres no splinters.
You're not confusing your whatsits with your doohickeys, are you?
I dont think I used the wrong term, but it might be a regional thing.
Wife had to work for a little while today, asked me to pop something in the oven for later.

So I told myself I wouldnt take in any more logs (unless its walnut) for awhile. Then I get a call theres some ambrosia maple up for grabs.

As much as I admire the ingenuity and DIY spirit involved in that project, it strikes me as a terrible choice compared to just putting an alaskan mill jig on a chainsaw.
My chainsaw is too small for that. I don't have room for the bandsaw.
I have to do things the hard way.... until I have a lightsaber.
What size chainsaw?
I have one with an 18" bar (forget the engine size) and I've swapped in a 20" bar and chain for a few bigger trees. I wouldn't try a 24" or anything crazy, but it didn't mind the 20" at all.
I want to make an Alaskan mill for mine at some point. I keep the 18" on it, but I'll use the 20" if using it in a mill.
