I could probably epoxy some bass strings into the rotten window frames as "reinforcing strands". Thanks for the suggestion! :p

Yeah, the kit is pretty small. :D Just buying a borate solution (disodium octaborate) will treat the dry rot fungus and kill off any insects, then you can use whatever epoxy and filler to patch up stuff, or fair in new replacement wood. :thumbsup:

If you can stand the eyebleed website, and noting I have not used that specific product from them (but the one I have used has worked well for me) , progressive epoxy polymers has their "low-v" for $83/48 oz or $163/1.5 gallons. They suggest thinning it more for rot penetration.

Heh. By pure coincidence I just ... happen ... :whistle: ... to have a majority-completed baritone body (that I'm mostly happy with) and a half-baked neck (that I'm mostly not, which will require a re-make). So I guess you can put me down for a 'partial'.

Truth be told, I was just getting to the point where there was enough leeway in my life to start the build again and I realized we were probably creeping up on a SBO. I've just ordered the pickup parts which were the last pieces of the puzzle (some finishing experiments aside). So count me in.

You can use that. Depending on how void-y it is you might want to do a bit of edge fill on it once you have the shape basically right, before final filing/sanding. Some 1/2" ply has huge holes in the inner layers.

Makes sense. I found a big white 1/2" thick polypropylene cutting board for next to nothing at the thrift. Would that be a better choice? Seems like it would cut and drill easily and not have any void.

Experiment a little first. Some of them melt pretty easily when cut and sanded.

With cutting boards specifically, make sure they're flat. A lot of them get tossed because they were put through the dishwasher and warped.

Still fiddling with my plans. One idea is a bass VI, more like the Fender this time than my last (with wider string spacing/bass bridge). I've been trying to find a Fender VI/JazzMaster-y shape that I could still make my own, with varying luck. Last night I dropped a new layer in Inkscape with my "stock house design" (see P/J in my avatar) and I just liked it better. So some decisions are...slow to form.

Have you ever looked through Welcome - Fetishguitars.com ? It's a repository of Italian guitars from the 60s - so many of them have offset shapes that there may be something inspiring. There are literally dozens of instruments to go through. :thumbsup:

Thanks! I'll give it a look. After more fiddling, I'm back to something that's close to a Jazzmaster clone, but I'm doing 24 frets, so need a lower cutaway. Managed to get that re-shaped with a bit of my own idiom there, and I'm happy...for now.
