Sunburst Geddy Lee signature?

The other day, my brother was listening to a radio interview with Geddy Lee on 107.7 The Bone (Bay Area rock station.) Apparently Geddy said Fender is working on coming out with a sunburst finish for his signature.
Anyone know anything about this?

They'd have to change the neck - maple board and black blocks with a sunburst finish would look terrible - IMHO.

If they make a sunburst model, I think it should have a rosewood fretboard with white pearloid blocks.

They're doing it for the MIM 70's jazz so they might as well.

I think it looks fine, but then again I almost always go with a tort pickguard. However, I think with the blocks it would look fantastic with a black pickguard.

I thought they would do a CAR signature (like the de-tuned Jazz he uses for 2112) before a sunburst (his fretted Jaco bass, I guess).

I still have not seen any of the new run of Geddy's with any upgrades. I don't have a problem with mine the way it is, except that I would really love it if this bass had a full profile neck.

I just had a friend over and had him play my bass while I stepped back and just listened, and dialed in the eq.
I had remounted the pickups with some extra foam to get a bit more height on them.

Man this bass has a tone, what a snarly monster. Thats a good thing.

I live the case of Chateau Petrus the amp is sitting on. Even crappy vintages of this wine go for $1000+ a bottle.

Personally I think it looks better than the black/white/maple combo. But then I've always loved a maple board with sunburst.

I would totally go for a sunburst w/tortoiseshell pickguard or the red 2112 bass.

You must have good eyesight. All I see is a brown boxy object. I've been putting off getting glasses for over a year, but I'm going to have to bite the bullet.

The Geddy Lee sig is Fender's #1 selling sig bass, no? If so, it's no wonder why they want to expand upon it. I wonder if Fender has any plans to trim the fat and cut a sig model or two
