I haven't even seen the 4015LF in any of my research. It looks like a monster. The recommended sealed cabinet volume is a little larger than what I have, and it's too bad that it's not a neo, but I'm definitely going to consider it.

Sunn 215SH driver replacement

Not significant enough of a difference to matter, and it appears to be in your budget.
Just remember you'll be taking on 50 lbs of speaker if you go with them. And those Sunn cabs by themselves are formidible empty.
I'm sure what's in there aren't exactly paper weights, but still,the 4015LFs are heavy mama-sans.
Not trying to discourage you, weight may not be an issue for you, after all, people are still using SVTs with 810s, those Sunns, etc. And for good reason: they sound great.
I'd put in some serious thought before commiting to the Definimax. Yes, it's an awesome driver, but you will be adding 50 lbs. To your empty cab weight and you'll have a dedicated LF cab. Won't be able to just bring the 215 and run it by itself (and sound decent anyway), always need the top cab. It will outperform the 3015LF in a sealed box and can be had for less $$, but it still ain't cheap.
Yeah, I'm going to have to think carefully about the Definimax. Adding that much weight to an already heavy cabinet is the opposite way that I wanted to go, but the specs on it are pretty cool. So what's a good recommendation for lining a small sealed enclosure like the ones in the 215SH? Should I go with some of that high-tech adhesive sheet product that I've seen people use, good old carpet padding, fiberglass insulation? Have any of you had good results by putting fill in a formerly empty sealed box? Thanks for all the great input so far too; it's helping me a lot in this process. The TalkBass community is great.
I heard a recommendation from a friend to fill my boxes about halfway with some fiberfill from a fabric store. I've seen some postings online saying to fill boxes really full, but not stuffed tight. Has anyone had any experience with this? Thanks.
I decided to also write McJerry at Eminence and ask his opinion, since he is intimately familiar with the box designs for all of their drivers. It turns out that he is a fan of the big old Sunn cabinets, and said that their cabinet shop used to be near Eminence's facility in Kentucky. His recommendation: the Kappalite 3015! Even though it's supposedly not applicable for sealed boxes, he stated that it will mate well with the 215SH's horn loaded design, which he says is hard to beat for pure output. He also said it would work better than the 3015LF due to its lower Qt and its lighter cone body. It's about a pound lighter than the LF so that makes sense. I brought up my idea about running two 4 ohm drivers for a 2 ohm cabinet, and he recommended that I stay with 8 ohm drivers to keep my amp happier in the long run. So I'll be going with the Kappalites. They're a little more expensive than some of the others but should sound great. Now I've got to figure out what to put in my 212LH cabinet.
