I'm more into Sunn tube gear that the transistor stuff, but I think you'll have a tough time with finding any higher powered Sunns for <$300.

BTW, didn't you buy that folded horn 215 Ampeg cab from Rusty? IIRC, you were taking it on a tour...
How's the back holding up? :D

You can get a Coliseum 300 for $350 with shipping on ebay, when one pops up.

I did, and that hasn't really changed.

FENDER bought Sunn in 1985, and finished up the existing stock that SUNN had, so there are a FEW fender branded Coliseum 300's, but i've never seen very many of them. After 1986, Fender re-vamped the line, putting the SUNN name on cheap PA gear, and some lighting equipment.
Then they put out a smaller range of Combos, some of them getting up into 100-200 watts, did that for awhile.

Fender eventually put out the 300t and Model T reissue in the 90's, with a range of speaker cabinets for both.

Circa 2000 give or a take a few years, FENDER stopped putting the sunn name on anything, and rebaged the amps. BAM! they are now the solid state bassman series. ;) The SUNN solid state practice stuff more or less evolved into the bassman range of small amps.

Oh, and bear in mind, that all of the stuff, except for the Model T, are SUNN's only in the name plate. Otherwise... they are proud and loud FMIC products that have an identity crisis.

I have the Coliseum-300 solid state head. Absolutely wonderful amp! The only reason it's my backup is that I got a Genz-Benz Shuttle 6.0 and speakers that are lighter and more powerful...but the Sunn sits there ready to do its duty.

I have absolutely fallen in love with my '74 Sunn BETA BASS head.

I run it through an early 90's Trace Elliot 810 and it blows everyone out of the water at less than two on the master volume. It goes from clean and smooth(Classic) to RAW DISTORTION. Think Lemmy from Motorhead. I'll post pic's tomorrow.

100 watts RMS at 4ohms (I swear to God they are lying about it.)
2 channels
Drive Knob (FET based Overdrive/Gain)
3 band EQ
Channel Volume and Master Volume

i've always had a thing for Sunn amps. i bought my first one, a 2000S in 1973. i loved that amp. back then, the bands that i played in were pretty loud, and i eventually needed even more volume/headroom, so i got an acoustic 370/301 to replace it. sold the 370 rig and got a 360 which i liked more, but still thought the tone of my old 2000S was way better. sold the 360 and got two early Concert bass heads with two 2x15 cabs. they were okay for the time, but still didn't do it for me, so i sold them and got an early Coliseum with two 4x12 cabs. to me, it was bit 'hard and sterile' sounding (like the Concerts), so i got my first SVT/810 rig and was happy ever since.

i had such fond memories of my first 2000s that i finally bought another one about 6 years ago. when i plugged it in it was exactly like i remembered-pure tonal bliss, so i'm not letting this one go.

and just for the heck of it, i bought another Coliseum Bass head about a year ago. it was absolutely mint. unfortunately, it sounded just like my first one (all mids with no low end) so i sold it. here's a few pics of that one:

I've played through the 300T plenty of times and to be honest, I'd rather use my Ampeg V4b any day. If I had to choose a Sunn amp to use it would be the 2000S no doubt. I feel like the 300T is a bit overrated. Not trying to stir up any arguments here but I feel like a lot of the reason they're so popular is because they do "look" cool.

I loved my concert bass, their solid state amps are the best compared to other brands in my opinion and it served me well for years but I did recently sell it so I could upgrade to an Earth tube amp. Solid state amps can only get your tone so far you know...
