Sunn Beta Bass Pre in a Pedal?

Well, I have the Dunwich Amplification Sunn Beta Bass pedal, as assembled by the very talented Magic Pedals! Hope to do sound clips this week or weekend, but so far: sounds like the real deal, but with switchable Midrange and more of an SVT tonestack, and IMO that's a good change! Invalid Link Removed

So killer! Let's see the rest of it! Dibs on the flip!

Is there meant to be a pedal casing?

Any more info on that?

Yeah, that's just a pic that Magic Pedals posted of the inside. If you find Magic Pedals on Facebook, one of his most recent posts is a quick sound clip of him playing guitar through it. I jammed on it yesterday and it's very cool. I need to get more familiar with the EQ style, but the switchable Mids does a lot for the sound of it, being able to cut honk or boost warmth, etc. Just digging in, and I know it's still Honeymoon time, but I can see it doing exactly what I always wanted, which was be a dedicated overdrive/distortion while I get my pure clean tones from my preamps (I'm running the pedal as a pedal, not as a Line level preamp, at this time).

As promised LONG ago, here is a terribly-played but super-long clip of the Dunwich Amps Sunn Beta Bass with Modified EQ as assembled by Magic Effects.

'74 P-bass directly into Dunwich Sunn Beta pedal w/modified EQ, into DI of Echo Audiofire Pre8 inLogic 9, no plugins. or processing. (the pedal is NOT a DI itself, it was recorded DI, apologies for the confusing naming of the file)

Clip settings are as follows:
Clean
All 12clock, mid centered
Adjusted for clean:
Bass Sweep
Treble Sweep
Mid down sweep
Mid mid sweep
Mid up sweep
Gain sweep w/vol adj
Mid mid sweep
Mid down sweep
Mid up sweep
Treble sweep
Max gain
Back to clean, bypassed, clean, for comparison.

Updates in general: There is now a schematic and layout available for a single-channel Sunn Beta Bass OR Lead over on freestompboxes.org, and confirmed functional builds from tagboardeffects.com. Our own JohnK has built one and put up clips on his SoundCloud, and they sound great! I also read on Instagram that Abominable Effects is working on a Sunn Beta pedal. So, 5 years later and the world is as love with this damn amp's sound as I am! Better late than never, World :) Great to see so many options out there for this!

This doesn't relate to the Beta Bass (in whatever form it takes), but this might be of interest to folks in this thread. Electronic Audio Experiments has a Sunn Model T preamp clone in a pedal called the Model feT that looks really cool. The first run is already sold out and the waitlist for the second run is full already (I'm on the list) but he'll make more again in the future.

Here's a demo with bass:

And here's one with guitar:

I'm also a huge fan of the Beta. My father's main amp since the 1980s was a Beta Bass combo, so I came up with it when I learned how to play as a teenager. For a hundred watts, that thing sounds huge.

The Correct Sound has intrigued me for a while, but my non-electrical engineering mind is confused on what exactly I'd have to do to power it in the States.

i drew up and etched my own pcb for a single channel beta bass pre using the factory schematic. I installed a charge pump in it so it runs off of a standard 9V power supply and then added a relayed true bypass. I like it a LOT.

here's a quick clip of it with various settings:
