Sunn Beta Bass Pre in a Pedal?

Well, we'll see what happens; there's a ton of Beta info out there, schematics and everything. Would it be worth having a DI out? Yes. Would it increase the cost? Probably, but by how much? This thing will already have 10 knobs, two channels, at LEAST two footswitches, possibly a toggle, and way too much technology in it, haha, from the EIGHTIES!

As far as the Dove is concerned, I can't be losing low-end, that's all there is too it. I have a crazy enough time making sure both effects groups are in phase and not cancelling one another out every other stomp as it is. Ed is very adamant that the Openhaus has too much hiss, but I'm not sure his bass experience mirrors our own, which is that of bassists in love with effects and willing to accept hiss in exchange for crushing, pummeling tone. Bonecrushing, some might even say.

In 2008 when I started this thread, there were no options. Now, 5!!! years later, we HAD the Monolith MAGMA pre, and now the Correct Sound Custom Beta Preamp and it's totally bada** looking brother, which takes one channel of the two-channel pre and substitutes a dual-12AX7 Model-T channel into it. I'm linking below, and I have NOTHING to do with this company, just wanted to resurrect it since I'm finding more options out there now. I know there's been a few threads on it, but any updates?

I know, holy zombie thread, Batman!

It's been a few years, we've seen the M*n*lith company come and go, we've seen the arrival of the C*rrect S*und Cust*m preamp, and I've even seen a few pictures of Dunwich Amps Fuzz+Modded Beta Bass in a single pedal, NOT a preamp, just a full-throttle distortion stompbox, but he said it's not for sale.

So, any updates on this? Any builders available interested in trying to reduce the Sunn Beta Bass preamp into a Vol/Gain/EQ stompbox at stompbox voltages, or at least not at Preamp line level?

Any suggestions for builders who may be interested? I've emailed almost a half dozen so far, with not a single Yes.

If I was not so busy with so much I would call in a preorder on those beta bass preamp in a pedal which you can run at preamp line level or down at instrument level. It still runs off a basic 9V power supply and does a lot of internal voltage conversion to get a larger power supply.

I did some serious modding in that schematic. I basically ripped out the entire EQ section and replaced it with my own EQ design (passive bass and treble) and active mids.

If you need someone to test it in a real-life situation, and test it HARD, I am your man (and I'm sure a TON of other folks in this forum and in the Doom thread, as well).

Everything you just described is EXACTLY what I wanted the Beta Bass to be in pedal form, especially the EQ changes and switchable mid. Cannot WAIT for this to be available. I'll buy more than one, that's how much I'm into this.

You can literally make a dream come true for me, just saying.

Weirdly the correct sound custom one sounds really good but listening to the videos when he runs both channels and cranks the gain it sounds nothing like what my beta bass does when you do that..It actually sounds like it doesn't have enough gain to compare to the real thing when engaging both channels with the drive all the way up. Except that minor issue all the other tones sound right.

He also has the knobs jacked almost all the way up in the video I watched, which is fine except I seldom have my Beta Bass Bass knob above 12 oclock, as it's a bassy amp to begin with. I think a video with tone controls at 12 with a wide adjustment of only the Drive knob would have been a good video, too.

And again, I would order one of them, or at least ask if it could be pedal-ized as a single-channel device, but the wait time is drastic, and if something went wrong it'd be a serious ordeal to get support, etc. I will patiently wait for Dunwich to put out their version, and then immediately buy two of them. :D

It’s a hybrid pedal in a compact box size (187mm x 120mm x 38mm),with two channels: tube and "stone". The tube channel is based on Sunn’s Model-T (1973), with two 12ax7EH tubes. The "stone" section has the preamp of the Sunn Beta amplifier (bass or lead, depending on the customer's choice).

Unlike the first version of the pedal, the channels aren’t switched successively but in parallel, as in our Beta Bass preamp. The new preamp only has one output and a balanced XLR DI out, which has switches for pre/post master and ground lift. We also offer true bypass.
Just like we did with model I of the Tube Beta Hybrid, we intend to produce two variants of the Beta channel: BASS or LEAD, depending on the customer's choice. Each channel has a classical set of regulators: gain, bass, mid, treble, level and master volume.
