Super 300 Owners Society

The drummer in our band loves the S300 and doesn't want me to turn it off. Our guitarist/singer never notices anything that's different, which is typical.
I love it.It is definitely an always on pedal.I put a Glow Plug in front and the tone is fantastic.Anyway you cut it the Super 300 is HOF worthy.I bet if you turn it off after a while your guitarist will ask if you're doing something different.

It's just the opposite in my band. The drummer is one of my best and oldest friends, but he hasn't a clue. The guitarist, also a good friend, has a terrific ear (he does a lot of recording in his studio) just loves it. He says its the best I've ever sounded. Besides a compressor & HPF, it's all I have on my pedal board.

What's not to like with the Super 300?
 
Just popped back in to say the Super 300 is an essential P-bass platform, which gets rid of all that awful 500Hz garbage that a P is guaranteed to make and it sounds better than using EQ. As soon as you turn it off after playing through it for more than 15 seconds, your amp sounds lame. I have also discovered that a S300 at the end of the chain makes the best canvas for any distortion or drive pedal(s) earlier in the chain. It seems to emphasize all the right things and deemphasize all the bad stuff. An absolute winner.
 
I wanted to get some feedback from some of you guys first before i do anything official.

Like almost everything else in the world today, my costs for the super 300 have gone up significantly - specifically for the aluminum brushing and printing.

I see two options:

1) keep the brushed aluminum enclosure but with a price increase on the pedals.
2) switch to a powdercoated enclosure and keep the price the same.

the photo shows the powder coated version on the left and the brushed aluminum on the right. I'm still testing colours to make the blue less intense on the powder version. bonus is that I can get the powder versions pre-drilled for me so i'm not in the garage in the middle of winter at the drill press.

If it would cut manufacture times and keep prices the same, I would go with the less expensive finish.

If the more expensive finish was measurably more durable, then I would say it might be worth it. I wouldn't pay more for aesthetic stuff, but if there's something practical in it then i could see it.

I have the original brushed aluminum. It's nice, but if given a choice between that or less expensive powdercoat then I'd have gone with the latter.

I also think the powedercoat is the way to go. It's becoming standard across the board from what I can tell anyways.
 
I have the brushed aluminum. Had it been available only in the powder coat or even no coat, I still would have bought it. The tones and quality of the build are what is important to me. Others may disagree, but the powder coat looks pretty darn nice, too, and maintains the aesthetic of one of the best SVT pedals out there.

If I'm being honest, I like the blue in that photo, but I'm not sure how different it appears in photos than in real life.

EDIT: I should specify that I mean the more intense blue of the powder coat.

I've seen posts stating people are using a 12V source?

The website states 9V.

I have the pedal power 4x4 so I have 9V 100ma and 400ma options as well as 12v 400ma option.

I currently am using the 9v 400ma input.

Is it okay to use the 12v or would I damage the pedal?
 
I just bought one (due to arrive in a couple of weeks). This is my first ever "boutique" pedal. And I bought it for the amazing tones; the looks were an afterthought for me. If you can keep the same amazing tones and keep your price stable, I think that's the most important thing for future customers. Especially in these days where so many potential customers may not be able to gig as often and earn as much as they used to.

Go with the powder coating,.as long as the box is sturdy with the same goodness inside I can't see a big deal.

I've been using 12v because awhile back Tim said it was OK (but no more than 12v).

it depends on the version.

if your PCB is version 4.5 or newer, then you can run 18V no problem. if it's an older rev i would try to stay at 9v but it "should" be able to take up to 12v.
