it depends on the version.

if your PCB is version 4.5 or newer, then you can run 18V no problem. if it's an older rev i would try to stay at 9v but it "should" be able to take up to 12v.

Is the version marked on the circuit board? If not, how can I tell?

it is marked. it's either in the center portion where the rotary switch is or on the lower left side.

my super 300 is version 4.0. is the gain pot linear or log? i'd prefer it to have more range before it starts overdriving so it's easier to run clean or at the very edge of breakup.

nevermind. i took mine apart and found out that the gain pot is a B100K (linear), so i removed & replaced it with an A100K (log) and i like it a ton better that way. it's capable of the same amount of drive, but the sweep of the control is much more gradual and even.

Does anyone get excessive humming from their pedal? I was rehearsing today and experienced this. The pedal is new to me.

when I would cycle through the midrange selector switch the humming would drop quite a bit when cycled to 1800 and 3500.
Here’s how my eq is set.
I was not using the solo button.

I’m gonna have to do this as well! The sliver of low-Gain range adjustment is my only issue with it

Also, in my 4.0 version, because the ultra low switch worked backwards (ultra low was engaged in the down position and the ultra high was engaged in the up position) while i was in there replacing the gain pot to an audio taper, i also reversed the ultra low so that when it's in the up position it's engaged. now the ultra low and high switches are engaged in the up position. after these two changes i absolutely LOVE the pedal now. he may have corrected that in the later versions but my 4.0 version is perfect now.

I was thinking of this after I posted. I'm running the Voodoo Lab 4x4 into one of the 12V 400mA high current inputs. I asked about the 12V input thing and I have a 4.5 version pedal.

I haven't been to rehearsal where my rig is to test the 9V input. But I do get the humming when plugging into my interface.

The humming goes away when I bypass the pedal.

I plugged it into the 9V 100mA input last night. Same humming. It's all within the Level knob it seems. The more I turn it up, the louder the humming gets.

I'd like to point out another thing one of the other members did. He changed the gain pot to get a more balanced sweep in how the gain intensifies. Is the A100K (log) pot he used the proper one? I, like others use this pedal only for low gain. My more aggressive drive comes from other pedals I stack with the super 300.

Just clarifying that the different pot taper doesn't give you more range, just a more gradual Gain sweep.

Can you describe the hum? Is it 60hz hum like thru a single coil, or does it sound more like a buzz? Does it change when you move around/face a different direction and/or does it change if you move the pedal around?

I had a bad hum coming from another preamp pedal, turns out it was the National Guard. Drove me crazy for awhile

Yup, me too. A bad patch cable can act like an antenna.
