SUPER CHEAP Chinese Rickenbacker... Worth Buying?

Hi,

There are a ton of INSANELY cheap "Rickenbacker" basses through a Chinese site called DHGate. Here's one, for example: Invalid Link Removed But there are a ton, see: Invalid Link Removed They all range from $180 to $450. None of them seem like real Ricks, despite what the listings/sellers say. The pick ups are different, etc. I'm wondering if these are at least decent for a knock off and worth buying? It's not THAT much money to "waste"...

Well, you know they're not the real thing. They are obviously being made and shipped from China, where chances are that Rick can't shut them down. OTOH, China and Korea are making some decent instruments, although I sure wouldn't expect quality to be close to that of a real Rick.

It's a crapshoot...you pay $ and take your chances.

Hmmm...Ric knockoffs via a website that copies eBay. One of the listings titled 4 string wooden bass shows a 12 string guitar.

Has anyone bought anything from this fakebay sight before? It appears that you would be dealing direct with the Chickenbacker factory(sweat shop) that shucks these bad boys out.

I guess when I think of "wooden", I think of that cool simulated wood tape stuff that they put on the side of station wagons back in the 70's. Hey, if they say its wooden then I guess that's what it is......... Looks more "woodish" to me .

It looks like an interesting bass. It wouldn't sound much like a Ric. It looks like it has Epiphone EB3 pickups reversed.

they are not even close to being a ric bass, any one that owns or is familiar with a ric knows that. ric's are neck thrus for one (the one in the pic above's back view appears to be a set neck, or is bolted on under the pickguard), and the body shapes, pickups, bridge tuners-everything on the ones on the fake ebay site are completely different.

C'mon, everyone knows the real Rics are made in India.

They're illegal in this country, so just for the sake of being on the up & up, I'd pass big time. Not to mention how clunky they look. Get a real Ric, and you'll have a bass to treasure, that'll hold it's value in the long run.

Without seeing the headstock, I think your average punter would be hard pushed to tell the difference between this one and the real thing.
