a finally finished one by itself…

YES!!!!

Looks great all around. I can only imagine how funky and punchy that thing is with those two monster Delanos in there.

Do you rest the thumb of your pick hand (in your case your right hand) on the lip of one of those pickups when you're playing?

Thanks Brett (and Skarsoul) I'm not a thumb rester - I use my pinky as a stilt (usually at the bridge pu) because sometimes I'll use my thumb in the mix. (mostly two fingers) The Delano's have a nice 'notch' on the top side for resting fingers on. (well designed) They are very punchy, especially w/that hot pre. I'm just getting acquainted but it's pretty different sounding from any bass I own. Really harmonic and dense. (and big! - like a souped up Camero) Also taking notes on playing ergonomics. My next project is going to be a 5'r and it will have a body based on what I learn about this one - already started sketching. I'm thinking a single Delano oval quad in the MM position. I've recently learned they make them in white… hummmm...

Very cool. I like everything about it — even the 90º fret marker in the first fret. I know that was quite a hot topic for a minute.

I'm contemplating using a Delano or two for my next project, both for aesthetics because I think it'll go well with the body I'm designing and because I want this next one to be a funkslammer. (I still need to finish my fretless J, though) I generally rest my thumb on a pickup, but it's not my exclusive position by any means, considering the different tones one seeks while playing. I see now that you pointed it out that there are little notches in there, so that's cool. I was originally under the impression that the covers were pretty close to flush-mounted.

Please, please, for the love of Odin, please get some audio of that thing online. My one truest hope is that it will sound like a$$, because that is pretty much the only thing that will diminish my rapidly growing want of that gorgeous bass based object. Simply sumptuous to the eyes, like radiant joy to the sight beheld, truly borne on the wings of the maker's will. Or something.
Seriously, it's gotta sound like a$$, or I may lose my mind.

I just sent an email to my drummer friend Tad who works for Sennheiser to help me do this and get it in your ears soon. Be prepared to lose your mind. ;)

Does Odin know how you feel about him? :D

Odin and me are ok- as the Allfather of war, battle, victory and death, but also wisdom, Shamanism, magic, poetry, prophecy, and the hunt, I believe he'd condone my message.

As for losing my mind? I hope that doesn't really happen- something so small really shouldn't go out unsupervised.

Just want to give anyone interested a heads up - Chris Kuffner, bass player for Ingrid Michaelson ("Girls Chase Boys") will be playing a custom bass made by Gary Fried that I did a Gildaxe (18k Lemon-Gold leaf) finish tonight (Thurs Sept 11th/2014) on Jimmy Kimmel Live. (ABC 11:30 CA time) Woo-hoo! :woot: http://abc.go.com/shows/jimmy-kimmel-live <- apparently you can watch it after tonight on your computer using this link.

Chris's cool bass - these shots were after the reassembly and the pg shown is not what's on there now, which is an awesome custom-made Spitfire tort one.
