Supernova Bass project : Ovular content

I keep trying to post a pic from a Sahara Taupe google search and an not able too… If anyone can, fee free. There's a P bass example that I'm looking at from Nationwide Guitars.

This one?

Yes my friend - that is the one (thanks!) It shows the somewhat mundane colour w/a patina of time highlighted by the wear mark under the neck pu cover. What I will strive for is something like this by having an amber clearcoat over the Sahara Taupe. Starts nearing Firemist Gold (w/o the metallic part)

Maybe look for a Lakland bridge. This seems like the perfect place for one.

Might be too much, though. Ya know, the bridge cover thing.

Maybe, nevermind. :D

… but then it would be mistaken for a Lakland (as it is a bit of a visual trademark for them) Good point though, hadn't even crossed my mind.

Running the voodoo down… working on a lot of details while I continue to shape the body.

Body forearm scallop - this section will be left (clear-coated) wood and the grain is very cooperative!

Inset lower strap peg - ground wire / bridge pu channels

brass bolt inserts - not especially pretty, but 100% solid connection

Body contours - shows inset strap peg - I could have fully buried it (Dunlop strap lock) but only inset it so if I were to forget my strap I could use it standard.

Belly bevel - also cut another cover and positioned the strat jack better (fine tuning) The cover has an even gap around it so once painted (top & edges) it will fit snug.

Need to order more cup-washers from Stew-Mac - rear mounted inset strap peg - weighed the raw body alone = 3.3 lbs / body & raw neck = 5 lbs This is going to be a sweet light bass! The design allows the bass to stand upright & secure when leaning against an amp.

This is really coming to fruition now! Any shots of the front mocked up?

Once I get the body shaped & sanded & sealed I'll do a final mock-up before shipping it to get finished - at this point, soon once the decals arrive. For now I'm sorta relishing this stage, as it's my favorite. Once everything's done - then the long wait, the final build, set-up and Plek - so no rush right now...

1st sanding completed and ready to seal; thinner based sanding sealer / cheap bristle brush / plastic-coated cloths hanger / perfect temps / Radiohead "The Bends" on the player -

thorough even thin coat to soak in to the pores of the wood - all surfaces including neck pocket, control cavity and pu cavities.

1st coat done and drying - I think the red alder is going to be the perfect compliment for Sahara Taupe. Will get a couple more coats on today w/fine sanding between.
