Supporting Membership Rate Increase: Aug 1 2014

When I bought my supporting membership my message capacity increased. When my membership expires, will I lose archives of all those messages? (The new format split about 100 private messages into 400+ entries or "conversations".)
No, but you won't be able to create new ones while you are over the now reduced limit. So you'd need to delete enough to get you back under the limit before you could start a new conversation

I think Gold Membership should have extra perks...

*First seating on the lifeboat should the ship go down.

*Valet parking.

*Complimentary dessert and/or continental breakfast.

*Meet & greet after every rage-quit.

*Aisle seating 'cuz I have to use the men's room frequently.

*TB's secret handshake and mystic incantation.

After 13 (!) years, still the best value going!

Well, I renewed in June, so IMHO my membership should not go up until the fiscal year ends, June 2015. I really think people should have been aware of this before now. I love the site, but would have gladly stuck to the old format to save some coin. My question is .......will I just pay the $10.00 balance Aug. 1,2014 or is this another $30.00 charge?

The change affects only new subscriptions purchased after August 1. You're all set until next June.... Sorry i didn't mean to confuse.

I don't see what I'm gaining . Yet I will need to pay more... ? Bandwidth, and server space prices have plummeted in the past few years. Terabytes are mere pennies compared to just a few years ago.. Just sayin.

You are correct over the last 10 years these prices have gone down pretty extreme compared to what they use to be, example you can get unlimited storage, bandwidth and database space at host gator for $15 a month. This type of hosting was unheard of 10 years ago.

You're absolutely right, hosting prices have gone down a lot. The other thing to remember, of course, is that 10 years ago we may have been able to host on a shared server at hostgator. Now we need 4 dedicated servers with SSD drives in RAID 10. Bandwidth sure is cheap though. And of course now TalkBass is a full-time job, with a support staff.

But anyway, the site's still free for you to use. If you want to sell gear, I think we're asking a very reasonable price.

Thanks :)

Working in the IT field for the last 17 years I will have to say that such a setup as you've described would be quite expnesive, even if it's local storage as opposed to a SAN, anyways, I suppose if looking at it from a selling standpoint then Yes, it is cheap.

When I bought my membership, I purchased it cause I wanted to support this community, I did eventually end up selling a bass on here but it wasn't my initial reason for purchasing. I'm not sure that there is very many people who want to support just to support but if there was maybe looking at a lower value membership that doesn't have selling rights might be an added solution?

Either way, thank you for continuing to keep these forums going, it's a pretty awesome community/resource.

Hey, Get Off My Lawn!

I recently purchased a supporting membership so I could post in the classifieds, and after I purchased and confirmed it,
I got an email saying that I was successfully upgraded to a supporting membership, but I'm still unable to post in the
classifieds and it doesn't even show on my profile that I'm a supporting member. I don't know why this is happening. :/

@paul Sorry to bug you, but could you answer my question? Thanks!

Sorry - to answer your question, you got a $20 discount on your Gold membership ($60 - $20 = $40), this is to compensate for the fact that you overlapped and "lost' the remaining 4.5 months of your old $20 supporting membership. I'm sorry it's not more clear on the purchase page that you were getting a discount. I'll see if I can fix.

I went to the Supporting Member page to pay with paypal but it still shows $20--is that a special discount I get because you like me so much?

If not, how does I fixes this?

This site is great. As a newcomer, I feel that supporting the site allows it to grow, bettering the service and info for know-nothings like me as well as the professionals and musical experts. The $30 /yr is barely a new set of strings.... one of the best deals on the net. Most of us have probably spilled $30 in booze in some years (on the amp, of course). Thanks!
