Surfing Bird

41 years old. Me and my guitarist play it for fun at open mic night and get really silly with the lyrics. On the breakdown we do finger between the lips making the bwahbwahbwahbwahbwah noise and chest pounding on the surfinnnnnnnnn' birrrrrrrrrrd part. I grew up in Maine and I first heard it on a TV commercial for The Boston Celtics, back when Larry Bird was a hotshot. I like the Ramones version best.

I'm 58. I remember when the Trashmen version was a radio hit!
I never listen to the Ramones, the only song I know by them is I Wanna Be Sedated.
I avoid Family Guy like the plague!

I had no idea so many other people had covered it!

Trashmen for sure. Ironically, the second band that my cousin and I put together in Junior High School in 1964 was named after the song. We were known as The Surfin' Birds. That was a very good band and we played pretty regularly for about 3 years or so till college took a couple of the older guys. Lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass guitar, keyboard and drums. In addition to the name on the kick drum head, there was a surfer's cross on it too. And yes, we played Pipeline, Wipe Out, Misrilou as well as "Surfin' Bird."

About 10 years ago, we had a reunion with all of the original guys. We went out to eat, then came back to my band room and jammed out for a couple of hours. The local newspaper sent a reporter and photographer and published a cool article and pics in the Sunday newspaper. Oh yea, the memories.
