Sushi Box More

Just looking for some feedback on this pedal, does it add some of that tube magic with the two tubes in it? I wouldn’t be using it for any gain or boost, more interested if it imparts the tube warmth to your sound.

Didn’t realize we can make identically titled threads, lol

It adds a subtle sheen. Not the kind of thing that can be meaningful in a live mix IMHE but possibly ads a little je ne sais quoi to a recorded track. It's a kleeen machine/ no grit available. The Sushibox Single Slice compressor adds much the same thing even when the comp circuit isn't mixed in. As a boost the More is beastly-if you swap the stock tube for a 12ax7 it can provide up to 30dB of spank.

I sometimes have it on my board for recording just to add that little something. My ears aren't attuned like an audio engineer's, I just know they're happier with my signal when the more is in the chain giving just a little boost to the signal. Live, it's my go-to for gigs when I know I need a proper boost to kick on occasionally in the set.

I keep my More turned on all the time, at about 11:00. With my very clean pre-amp pedal, it just seems to thicken things up a tiny bit. The sound seems richer with it on. It seems to me that, at some point, Mr. Sushi himself said it was his best pedal design.

The answer is 'yes' - to all of it. I use the MORE in my pedalboard chain mounted to the board as a 'tube preamp', and I also have a 2nd 'MORE' that I use in front of my solid state amps, mostly with electric bass. I've used other tube preamps in the past with EQ controls, etc, but the MORE does that very specific 'tube warmth and mild compression' thing very well.... much better than other more feature-laden pedals. I find that adds a very pleasant thickening/tightness to the sound without imparting any major EQ changes as a result.

As far as settings go, I generally leave mine right at noon, or 1 o'clock max. It can get very loud/hot in terms of output, and I have found that it can overload some of my effects pedals if you go much past noon. My '87 OC-2 in particular started putting out a distorted signal if the MORE was pushed past 1 o'clock. YMMV.

I love your signature!!

I had one on my smaller board for a while and I can also say that it does in fact add a “tube vibe” to your tone…BUT it’s not quite the same as something like the Noble DI/preamp that also has a transformer in it.

I bought the More pedal when I sold off my Noble last year in an attempt to regain some tube warmth in my signal chain. The Noble definitely gives a warmth and heft to the bass tone that I didn’t get without it, and to my ears the More gave me almost as much warmth but didn’t seem to give me the heft in the notes…rather a sort of analog articulation. I did find that it introduced a tiny bit of noise at a couple venues but I suspect those places have questionable power and were in the middle of Broadway (lots of stuff going through the air and circuits down there).

The only reason it’s been off of my gigging board over the last several months is there wasn’t room for it on a Temple Board Solo 18 (with a Bergantino Super Pre, Origin Effect Cali Compact Bass and a Shure GLXD16+). I had intended to rework my board to include it for this short tour I’m on but simply ran out of time, however for the next run of shows I’m hoping to have the More out with me.

I had all three here at one point, did a little shoot-out.
The Finally with 12AU7 has the most character, and lives on my ampless gig pedalboard. The More came in 2nd, yes character and some natural tube compression, that's the amp it lives with.
The Np was too clean for me, moved it on.

The More can get more attitude... I was recently rolling some vintage tubes and accidentally put a 12AT7 in the slot that the factory 12AU7 sits in, and was surprised how much gnarlier it got when I fired it up, and swapped it back. I may still play around with that some more when my tube order arrives next week.
