SVT 3 Pro settings tutorial thread - please contribute your knowledge!

One other thing to add that I just thought of. I have learned to use my Sansamp as a 2nd channel. It is said that this pedal has "natural compression," and I use it to get a more "active" and fat sound. Sounds nice with my jazz bass. With the pedal off and the Ultra Low and Ultra High in the "off" positions, The amp and jazz get a really nice "natural Jazz" sound.

Thanks Meatwad! Very helpful.

RE: BDDI vs. XLR out on the amp, it depends. If you are always using your BDDI then it would not make a difference, I don't think. The best would be to try both at your sound check and see which sounds best from FOH. I am not sure if the XLR function on the BDDI remains constant no matter if the unit is on or off. I would think that the XLR would be affected by the on/off switch.

One curiosity I also have is again related to the Gain/Volume knobs. Do people set the Gain to taste and then use the volume to control how loud the amp is on stage? That is the sense that I am getting, that most use those knobs in that manner, as opposed to "max the Volume knob and then use the Gain knob to set your overall volume." Thoughts?

Ok so here's my settings, probably a little different than yalls but sounds great on mine. I'll use Clock settings in regards to the settings.
Brite - in
-15db - out
Gain set between 9 and 10 ish
High - in
Low - out
Bass - 4 oclock
Midrange between 1 and 2 oclock
Frequency 4
Treble all the way open
Master between 9 and 10 ( I keep my gain and master about even )
EQ's engaged and set at the venue

For my stage volume, I set the amp to volume I want it on stage, run a line into the back of the head on post Eq and use the line output level to set the PA volume for the sound guy.

I have not replaced tubes in the SVT yet, but in my old HaRtke 3500 it was simple. Old out, new in. And from what I have read, same for SVT. unplug the old tube, plug in the new one. Very simple. Someone correct me if I am wrong. Thanks.

I just bought a dbx 160a rack comp from a fellow TB'r and i have since been searching the forums and reading both manuals for the dbx and the svt. So now I've been bombarded with all these ways to hook this thing up. From what I've ready it's a line only type something about bass not being hot enough to drive it if i have it first in the chain. But i play a Warwick Thumb and i cant imagine it not being hot enough to do anything lol. So what is the best way to hook this guy up to my svt 3 pro? effects loop? preamp out? direct? I've read so many different ways that now im confused.... i realize that it's all by ear but like i said I've been bombarded with info

I don't care whether it's built to go in a loop or in line with your bass, I put everything in line. I don't like the way things sound in loops. Either it sounds identical or worse, never better IMHO. But you can hook it up any way you want, at any level of the signal chain you want. I always hooked up comps first after the bass when I used them, but it's all very much a taste thing.
