SVT-4 Pro Internal problem??

Alright so I have an svt-4 pro, and I have gotten a good response from one of the ampeg experts on here, but having a hard time trying to get back to him. So the problem is with the output (1/4'') for the Mute/Graphic EQ out. Something is acting up with the output causing the amp to "mute" intermittanly, and not letting me use my preamp whatsoever. So I took the nut off of the jack so I could see what was up, and if you push the jack in any direction, or in or out then the amp works great, I have heard it could be a problem with the soldering, now could I take the entire jack out of the board, or should I try and soldering the necessary connections. I don't use the jack at all, and right now it is a huge pain in the butt, and causing nothing but problems, recently I have been using my sansamp as the preamp, and just using the power amp on the 4 pro, but I figure I don't want to waste the head, the tubes, and the extra controls and tone shaping the preamp has to offer. So bottom line, can I take the jack out without having a continuous problem, or should I take it somewhere to get fixed, even though I know what the problem is and it will probably cost more than what I would want to spend.
thanks

Hi Joe.

Without seeing the schematics, I'd guess that the jack also performs one or more switch functions as the plug is inserted or not so NO, I wouldn't remove it and neither should You.

If You have any electronics experience and know all the safety procedures, touching up the solder joints is a pretty simple task.

Since You're asking these questions in the way you do, I strongly feel that the answer to the above is no, so a trip to a tech is recommended.

Hi Joe,

I think we had talked before about this. Your MUTE jack either needs to be cleaned out or replaced. The cleaning you could probably do by inserting a 1/4 jack in and out of it to loosen any oxidation that may have built up. Some contact cleaner helps too. If it does need to be replaced though, that is something that should be done by a repair shop. One thing to check is if the amp is still under warranty. Was this amp purchased within the last 5 years and if so, do you have the original sales receipt from when you bought it?
However removing the jack and leaving it out is not recommended.

Hope this helps!

In his specific case, it sounds more like it's cracked solder.......

If it was made with the UK manufactured jacks we used from 1998 or so onwards until the Loud purchase, they won't oxidize, it's the cheapo far eastern ones that do that...... the plating isn't very good. I'd probably have a tech re-solder it and be done.

it's a pain to remove the board, not for the inexperienced to do.
