I was after a VBA a couple years ago but they are soooo expensive new and used ones are almost non existant. SVT, VBA, AD200B......in my dream amp room.

SVT KILLER!

No. It's not a bad thing. It's GOOD thing to be able to hear your amp anywhere on stage (and by anywhere, I do mean all way to each side of the stage), and NOT have it decapitating the people sitting (or standing) directly in front of it. And trust me, when I was directly in front of it, there was PLENTY of forward projection.

Cool....but I have a question concerning stage aesthetics...why the heck is your rig so damn far off center - or is it just perspective from the camera?
Oh - and don't run with that bass in your hands....if you fall you'll put your eye out......

There's a local band that has used a VBA 400 and a Marshall 810 cab for years, and for years they've had my favorite bass tone of any local band.

When the crew set the amp up, I was thinking about how I hear things on stage using an SVT rig. With an SVT rig, I need it placed behind where my vocal mic is, so I can hear it properly. That's why the stack is there. Next time I get a VBA rig, I'll know that I can hear it wherever it's placed, and have it set up accordingly.

Oh, okay! just seemed to be Waaayyy off-centered. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I was just thinking that I nearly always have my rig set up nearer the drum riser and my vocal mic is a tad more "off-center". Thanks!!
Not meaning to hijack the thread but I bought a VBA 400 and am a little disappointing in it's volume. Our bigger clubs I run the gain and volume at noon and it's certainly not overbearing loud. I think my mesa 400+ is louder yea I know double the power for 3db increase
What cab(s) are you running it into? When I ran one of my VBA400s into an Ampeg 410HLF at a small club gig a few weeks ago, I had to crank the Master Volume to 7 and the Gain to around 5. Into the 2 VBC cabs at Sweden Rock, on a much larger, open air stage, I had the MV at about 5 and the Gain at 2. Through my own early 80s Marshall bass cabs (4x12 top, 2x15 bottom), I keep the MV and Gain around 2, and that is barely low enough to play a decent sized club without blowing everyone's head off, hehehe...

I played it through my 4x10 mesa deisel although it is an 8 ohm cab. I really would like a cabinet to bring this thing to life !
I wouldn't use that cab with a VBA400. The VBA only does 4 or 2 ohms, and an impedance mismatch is really bad for a tube amp. Once you plug it into an appropriate cab, I think you'll be quite happy with the volume and tone.

I know your not supposed to but before I did I checked with my amp tech. He said obviously it's not optimum but it won't hurt the amp. Cab suggestions ?
+1 and I'll take my Bassman 300 Pro in place of the Orange.
Seriously, I've been watching out for a VBA stateside for a price affordable to a 23 year old kid and it's just not going to happen. I can always wish though!
Orange is expensive but 3 or 4 months ago I saw one of the online retailers clearing out the AD200B for 1600.00 !
In general terms, more speakers = more volume
Do you like the tone of sealed or vented cabinets?
How big a room do you want to carry and how much to spend?
There are a lot of fried output transformers out there that would disagree with your tech. Just saying be careful.
For sure, you're not getting the max power the head can deliver with that mismatch.

My tech built amps for SLM so i trust him but I would prefer a 4 ohm cab. realitically my budget prolly will be whatever I get for my mesa 2x10 buster combo and my ashdown 2x10 abm combo
Duuuuude...I gotta quit coming to this site, I hear about too many freakin awesome pieces of gear that cost an arm and a leg lol. I wanna try one of these soooo bad now

Geeze, standard for what? Back in the 70s you saw way more Marshall, Acoustic, and Sunn bass amps. Even Hi-Watt. I don't get the whole SVT thing. I disliked them then, I dislike the new ones even more.
