SVT VR problems

pretty much had this happen three times in the last year and a half or two years.
first time was right after i bought my svtII, yeah of course the seller claimed it worked perfectly.

good sign was i could plug my bass into the amp in jack and get good sound...all three times.

first time problem was the send/receive jacks being dirty.

about 8 months later it did it again, that time i fixed it myself and it was just a preamp tube.

the last time was just recently so i let my tech have it again, he reworked the connector from the preamp board to the main board...which was the problem. he also reset the bias and re-soldered the preamp tube sockets and a few other areas on the preamp board...but that was just as a precaution because i mentioned some people having problems with joints on the svtII's.

it actually sounds better after he reworked the connector.

so, find a good tech and let him go through it.

IMO, way more than likely, it's NOT a transformer issue.
send/receive jacks, a loose or oxidized internal connector, cold solder connection or a tube would be the first things that i'd check. once a tech gets it to repeatably exhibit it's problem, it should be a relatively simple and inexpensive fix.

That.

I'd also personally check the tube sockets for loose pins and tighten any that seemed borderline. I like to use a dental pick to do it.
