I haven't tried it but I think you might be disappointed. The sensitivity of the two cabs is so different that you might not get what you're after. I suspect you'd be happier with 2 Triads.

That makes since. SWR recommends that Triads only be paired with other Triads. Bummer. I want to go the Big Ben and Goliath Jr route, but I'm concerned the 18 would be too muddy. I've heard great reviews that its not. The Son of Bertha cab would be the next best choice, but I don't need two horns. One is too much already and I keep it on the lowest setting. Love the speakers SWR puts out, but have no use for the horn. Don't understand why they put those on bass cabs

Even if you have to go for a long drive, I'd suggest trying a few combinations out. I suspect the Big Ben would mate better to a Triad than a 210 would, and it sounds like it might meet your needs.
Personally I like a horn in my speaker cabs. Not because I necessarily like trebly bass, but it means each note I play has a slightly clearer edge as it starts, all the better to lock a drummer in with.
I got a cross country trip coming up in May. Probabaly a good idea to make a few pit stops along the way if there are any SWR dealers on my route. Thanks for the insight.
Just joined up with TB dot com and well....SWR has been my gigging rig for the last 3 years so i figured this club would be the one to join. if your still handing out numbers for it.....i would love one.
i currently use an SWR 2x10C workin mans combo amp with a goliath 4x10. love the punch that SWR has over lots of other tone oriented 10s cabs. unfortunatly i think im going to be straying away from the swr amp and just use the cabs though. hope this dosent keep me from being able to be part of this club. *crosses fingers* as i love the overall sound of SWR cabs. just wanna try out a new amp. so i will be adding a big ben to accompany my goliath and i plan on pushing these with the Genz Benz shuttle max 12.
really just wanna try out the fet/tube blend. anyways shoot me a PM if i can get a club number!

Never had a Big Ben, but I had a Bag Eng S18 paired with a Bag End D10x, driven by an Alembic F1X and biamped with a SWR Stereo 800. Amazing hifi tone and warmth. Bag End helped design several SWR cabs including the Big Ben. The original Big Ben used Bag End speakers. If you are not going to biamp, there may be a bit of efficiency clash, but it would be a fun experiment. The SOB and a 2x10s are a nice set, just dampen the horn down.
It's actually VERY clean. I was surprised that the front still had all of the original markings on it. Beauty. Classy.
I love everything about it. It feels a bit tighter than my 350x as well. A little more punch. Mmmmm, makes me hungry.
Does anyone know how to decipher the serial numbers on older SWR gear?
I have an SWR Basic Black now that I am no longer touring played a Bass 350 head with a Triad Cabinet for Years but I no longer have it.
There will be a three digit number, the first two are the week the last is the year. I have a PB200 that is 347 (34th week of 1987), my Studio 220 is 128 (12th week of 1988).
How do you know if it was 1988 or 1998? Mine is 238.
By the way, been playing around with it more tonight. I'm definitely going to buy a power amp for this bad boy. This thing sounds so nice. Or I might get an SM-400... Who knows?
"SWR Engineering" lasted from 1984-1997, the SN format changed for "SWR Sound" in Dec 1997. The Studio 220 was in production 1987-1998. You could peek inside and check the date on the transformer, or I think they may have switched to a detachable power cord on the last models, not sure. With a 238 on the back it's probably 23rd week of 1988.
I did more than a few gigs with that set up - a 350 + Triad - good rig. I'll bet a guy could hunt that combo down for CHEAP now...
Right now there is a SM400 on ebay for $250 Free Shipping! It's from Warpdrive Music in WI. I have bought stuff from them before, good seller. Amp is clean and functional. Needs four front screws for the cover, no biggie. Great deal, but I do not need another.
Out of all the Products SWR has out these days my favorite for sure is the Golight 2x10. It is such a pleasure using that cab. Small light and easy to move. If you have the power to push the little Bugger in the 400 to 500 watt range it performs quite well. It's my little work horse.
I told their sales rep, they should make a 4 ohm version of it but he later got back to me that it would not happen. If you had a 4 ohm Golight 2x10 one could pair it with the Headlite and presto, you'd have a tiny power house.

I have not had a chance to scan this entire thread to see if anyone has written in w/ a similar problem, but here is my situation. I have an early Studio 220 amp (serial # 047 0052) is was working up to about three months ago. I really don't use it that much anymore since I got a Little MarkBass head. But I would like to get it working again. After turning it on, it use to take a little while to start getting the sound to the speaker cab, but now it never gets any amplified sound to the speakers. You can hear clicks from the speakers when plugging in your bass, and adjusting some knobs, but that is it. the tube lights up as does the power lite. Probably a transistor in the power circuit has gone, but I have no meter to test it. This might even be a question for another forum altogether. But if anyone here has any suggestions or even a place that still repairs these old amps please let me know. I've used a Workingman's 10(w/ it's extension speaker) for practice and small gigs and have had it since just before Fender bought SWR(2002).
