I am hoping to hear from swr fans. I have been looking for a combo and have a chance to pick up a pristine super redhead.

The other combo I am looking at is the mesa boogie m6 combo. It has 600 watts with two twelves.

It is either the mesa or an SWR redhead and pick up an additional cabinet. Any suggestions- 15, 4 more 10s, 2 10s or 2 x12s.

I have only listened to both of these once in different stores and like both but dont have the ability to compare side by side.

Any comments or thoughts are appreciated as I flip flop on the purchase.

I too would go Redhead for tone alone. Best studio type tone to my ears. If your going to link it up to another cab, best "for me" bet is to get a 4 ohm Goliath Jr. cab to evenly distribute your load to an identical cabinet, so to speak. But redheads really shine all by themselves with no extension cab....again, just my opinion.

Mesa is nice, but I'd go with the Super Redhead. I use a Son of Bertha 15 with mine, splits the power equally between the three spreakers. Used to have a Goliath III 410 (8ohm) and I like the warmer tone of the SOB better. And it is smaller and much easier to tote:hyper: Either one would be nice, but this club is a little bias toward the SWR stuff. :bassist:

I agree. When I had my Redhead, I used to put either my Son of Betha or my Golliath Jr. under it. The Son of Bertha gave a bit more heavy low end that I like. Never tried my Big Ben under it though. That might have been pretty cool since I really dig the 18"s

Am I alone on this....I didn't care for a SOB under my Redhead or any 8 ohm cab for that matter, I felt I noticed the uneven power distribution since the SOB won't get the same even power load as the 210's running them together at 2.67 ohms. I prefered a 4 ohm 210 cab under it and was able to get better results, and the corners stacking up perfectly seemed like a win win situation. Good chance I am just that picky. Either way I'm just glad there are others still into SWR as much as I am since they get such a bad rap on this site. I fell in love with the sound in the 90's with everyone else and I'm not getting a divorce anytime soon. Pre/Post...it's all good:D

Shortly after my purchase, Hurricane Katrina drowned most of my amp gear (see pic below). I replaced the G III ASAP, and the following year, bought a 12Pack which gave me a different, but equally good tone. Unfortunately, I sold the 12Pack last year, but now regret doing so.

One thing the hurricane experience did do, was show me the build quality of the cabinet itself. Although the components and covering was ruined, I had a chance to inspect the joints and bracing of the cab and was very impressed. I still have it and am rebuilding it with the original PAS drivers (reconed).
