At usspeaker.com you can check out all the specs, the Beta handles more power at 225W but the center cone is smaller and it only goes down to 78Hz. They also have the new Delta 8 it is also 225w but bottoms out at 100Hz. I think the alpha is more a bass speaker and the beta and deltas are more for midrange.

New SWR owner here, Just picked up a SM500 and a workingmans 410 for under $400.

The previous owner said he had it for about 10 years and never changed the pre amp tube.

Is there a preferred brand of tube for these ?

Also, How can I date the head and cab ?

Nice find!

I replaced my tube with a groovetubes GT-12AX7C. It fattened up the tone a treat.

The year the cab and head were made are signified by the first two numbers on the serial number. For instance, MEGO0210. This signifies a megoliath made in 2002.

My SWR Baby Blue combo has been my main recording & home practice amp for many years, and I absolutely love it. It lets me hear the true uncolored sound of each of my basses, and my Rickenbackers sound particularly nice through it.
I also have an SWR Headlite that I pair with a 15" EV speaker in a Sonic cab, and while I use that mainly as a live Taurus pedal amp, it also sounds fantastic as a bass amp.

I've been an SWR fan since the late 90's...
finally got my [entire] rig (pictured) by 2005

Goliath III 410
Son of Bertha 115

Since then , I blew the 115 (3 days after warranty exp'd..they wanted $450 to replace the speaker)
I needed more volume, so I traded in the 350X head (Couldnt afford a bigger swr at the time though)


HOWEVER , I stil have the SWR Goliath III 410.
It was back in 2003 (and still remains) the best 410 I've ever played through.

So, My name is BassDirty, and I'm an SWR fan.

One of the finest bass tones I've enjoyed was watching a hard rockin' trio in Austin at the Blind Pig rooftop pub. The bassist played an old p-bass through a 500w Peavey head and a Goliath III 410. That rig had some serious thumpin mojo; great sound for the rockin' blues they played. :bassist::D
The new Golight 410 is supposed to have this vibe in a 56 lb package which would be really cool to check out but its hard to locate any dealers that have one. Everything seems to be going online these days. :rollno:

Dirty - I had your *exact* rig - 350X in a rack with a Furman and a DTR1000 powering a G3 and an SOB. Recently sold the SOB, now have this spread of largely Pre-Fender (for whatever that's worth) SWR goodness:

I have finished my restoration/upgrade on my Workingman's 2x12 cabinet. I picked up the cab a few years ago and it needed a monkey fur redo. The cab sounded great with my Studio 220 and Redhead head, but being only 250W@8ohm it wasn't enough for my SM400. I stripped the monkey fur off of the sides, top, bottom, and back and it was a real pain, I will rethink attempting that in the future, not fun. But the recover was easy and it looks like new! Then I replaced the speakers with Emenence Delta 12LF, replaced the LeSon tweeter with a Foster horn, and replaced the crossover/input jack with one from Dave at Avatar speakers. Now I have a great looking 1000W@4ohm cabinet that the SM400 loves to drive. It is warm, loud, and allows you to dial up the top end. Totally killer! I haven't tried it with the Super Redhead yet....maybe tomorrow.

I have the fore runner SM400 in the center of a 4 space rack case with open air on both sides. Never had a failure, but you can cook eggs on the chassis. It is designed to transfer all the heat to the chassis so was never really meant to be a two space amp. I think that's why they added the fans on the SM400s and SM500 so you could actually put them in a 2 space box. Sweet sweet sound! I also have a Studio 220 and PB200 (same preamp, 1/2 the power) and run them with an Avatar single 12/4ohm cab and they don't get that hot. It must be bridging the two power amps that ignite the furnace.

HI guys I’d like to join but I have not received my headlite.

I decided to get the headlite based on the size and portability, plus hopefully 400 watts would be enough to play in a small club.

The thing is that now I’m not sure if I still want the headlite or the workingpro 700.

Could someone give me an opinion on this amps.

And also Is the working pro line as bad as the Gallien K backline?

I don't know how I missed this.. My Bass 750 and my SM-400 both came with Groove Tube Ecc83s tubes. I had since done a huge go round with all the 12AX7 tubes and hated every single one of them. JJ Tubes, I think, are the only company that makes a Ecc83s and that is what I will only use. I love my tone. It is something you may have to work with. If you like the tone you have all ready, try to keep the same tube. Groove Tubes do no make the tubes, but just put their name on them. Search the amp forum for preamp tubes and you will find a ton of stuff on them. They are very much like basses. Very individual preference thing.

Hello my SWR Friends. Just in case anyone is looking, Guitar Center.com has a SWR ST-220 for sale right now. $240!!! Good price. Yes I realize this is not the deal section, but this is a fan club for SWR People and I know there are probably some people out there that would love to get their hands on this one..
