I apologize up front if this particular question has been answered.

Are SX basses available for purchase at any other sites apart from rondomusic.com? The reason being, I've seen other models on the site www.sxguitarspain.com/sx_bass.htm , but they can't be purchased there.

Also, can Kurt, at rondo music, get other sx models not displayed on the site? - I know this is a question for Kurt, but I thought siomeone might have some insight and previous experience with this.

I think Rondo is just the US Distributor for them.

I don't know fully how it works, but I do know that the Pirate themed jazz bass is just cheesy enough to be AMAZING.

I believe people have tried to get Kurt to order things before and the answer has usually been no. Or something like "if they become available." So I wouldn't count on it. And yes, Rondo is the only place to get SX basses.

Theres no problem with SX selling the MM copies in Europe, the Ernie/Sterling Ball copyright only covers sales in the US.

Rondo is the exclusive distributor of SX in the US (and one of Team Intl's largest customers). SX Spain is a distributor for Spain and some of Europe.

Rondo can't sell the MM clones in the US under a legal agreement with EBMM. They can be sold in Europe though.

Nothing wrong with the stock p/u's. They sound very much like a stock mid/late 70's Fender P. Unless you specificly want something different, I wouldn't change the stockies, as they are pretty good sounding.

SX Basses are all pretty good, they just lack some fine tuning out of the warehouse. The set ups are pretty darn good considering price.

I bought one of these:

Glossed the frettless neck (because of rosewood, and I like round wounds), then decided to get a fretted maple neck, and bought one of these:

Which was quite a nice looking neck with decent enough fret job.

Then, I put some bart pick ups in it, and then for good measure tossed in an Aggie OBP-2 w/Stacked Bass Treble knob.

In the end, and nice playing bass, and more over, very nice sounding.

Certainly feels, sounds, and plays like a Jazz (modern).

They had a cheaper option with OLP. But that license wasn't renewed. EBMM is working on another licensee for a "cheaper option." I don't think they "need to get over themselves." I think they need to keep doing what's right for their company.

so, now that I know SX basses are available only at Rondo, in America at least, I'm wanting an all black p bass with a maple board. So, does anyone know if there are replacement pickgaurds for their basses or any fender type pickgaurds which would fit?

Replacement pickguards can be made by places like Jennie's and Pickguards.com. Send a tracing and they'll make one up for you (at a cost). Fender pickguards are not a direct replacement. You'll have to drill some new holes and maybe shave the pick up holes a bit. Not a major production however.
