SX Ursa 6-string Jazz bass

I must say I likey, too. I snagged one of the WEB-826 six stringers a couple of years ago when they still carried that model. Pretty nice six string. All it needed was a new set of strings, and it was good to go. I'd like to give the Jazz sixer a try, the only thing I'm iffy on is the mega-ultra-super narrow spacing at the bridge. Yikes....

Has anyone seen the new SX Ursa 6-string Jazz bass that Rondo has put up on their website? I took notice of the new bass when browsing their website.

I have had great experiences with Rondo and my first 6'er was a Douglas WOB 826 that I love to use in the bands I play in. Sounds great for the price. The only thing with the Ursas that have kept me at bay is their headstock but on this one, it kind of fits the six string bass. I can live with the head stock if it's a good bass for the money.

I would appreciate any input my fellow members of TalkBass.com can give me. Thanks.

Oh man, what'd you go and tell us about that for...now I want it. And I just got my Foundation too. :help:

Tempting but I wonder about the 1/2" string spacing at the bridge. Only $150 bucks and the return policy is good...Hmmm...:hmm:

Geez, that's really a nice looking bass (yup, I kinda like the "old geezer" burst :D), and the price is extremely low. But the spacing is brutal ..... however, for $150 it's worth grabbing one to see what it feels like .... ;)

Yeah, like I need yet another bass ..... :atoz:

What did you ask?

Basically about the comparison with my Douglas WOB 826 BLK and the exact string spacing because I thought there might have been a misprint on the page. Here's the reply I got from him:

Confirmed it's 1/2" - well just a bit less in metric 18mm

Kurt

And if that's the case then, it's not much more tighter of spacing than the Douglas. The price is very tempting to say the least and as said before, Rondo's return policy makes the deal even more appealing.

Wait, 1/2" = 12.7 mm. What's the true answer?

1/2" is way less than 18mm it is 12.7mm. The wob spacing is said to be 11/16 or +17mm. I was also thinking it may have been a misprint because it doesn't look all that tight. I measured and my KZ6 is 1/2" spacing at the 9th fret.

If you loook at the two side by side I don't think the ursa could be that much tighter than the wob. .5 inch spacing would make the overall spacing at the bridge 2.5" the overall spacing of the wob is around 3.4 inches. That much of difference would be visually noticable at least I think so.

Someone needs to check their math...

1/2" spacing would be close to 13mm, not 18mm. 18mm would be a spacing of 11/16" at the bridge. At 1/2" spacing at the bridge, the total of 2 1/2" across would barely be a narrow spaced 5 string...16mm between strings.

If the neck on this would actually accommodate an 18mm or 19mm (better yet) 5 string, I would be all over this as a bass to modify. A slight change to a 5 string headstock, a new nut, and new bridge, and a wide spaced J 5 would be born.

Ok, can one of you brave warriors please confirm the bridge spacing with Rondo? Looks like 1/2" is wrong based on 3506string's picture. I had that brice bass and the spacing was tight, but not 1/2". Guess what I'm trying to say is that I'd buy the SX6 if the spacing was at least like the brice.
