SX "Ursa" Basses?

I think it was on reranch, or maybe the essex uberthread here, someone has successfully reshaped the new headstock into something that looks like a passable "telecaster" headstock. It's a bit small, but not so you'd notice.

I successfully reshaped my Douglas Pisces and there's a couple of threads on it floating around. The Douglas was easy because the neck is natural in color making refinishing a breeze using satin poly. However, I don't mind the tinted necks but I do see the challenge in matching up the color after reshaping.

I'm more intrigued by this:

and a Darkstar. If it were short scale I'd have probably already hit the "add to cart" button.

Mmmm, I like it!! And only 7.5lbs. That bass is screaming for a piezo bridge. :) Hmmm, X-mas isn't far away...

Sales won't decrease. Christmas is coming and they should still sound and play good, and still be a good value for the money. Too many other basses are way over priced to knock SX out.

Eventhough, they now look like mismatched socks,IMO.:spit:

Amazingly, lots of people say they don't mind the headstock over on the SX thread. I'm not one of them.:ninja: If I have to buy a cheap bass(I don't think I will) I'll just get a Squier or an Ibanez and save myself the headache of getting one of these in shape. :scowl:

I agree. That's even uglier than the Alleva-Coppolo headstock, and that's saying a LOT. :ninja: :D

Big +1 on getting the Squier. Awesome basses nowdays.

New headstock: IMO Huge aesthetic leap backwards.

Sunburst: Cheap looking in the pictures

The semi-hollowbody: NICE!

Sales: like hotcakes... though a few guys may wait out used squires due to the head/neck, I'd assume xmas sales will make Kurt a small fortune.

Hey, whatever happened to the OLD hook beak heads? they were HUGE!

The A/C headstock reminds me of Bullwinkle. Such a lovely bass screwed up by a misproportioned, foolish looking headstock.

There's so much to like about the A/C's but I couldn't bring myself to play one of those or a Vallenti for the same reason.
Not sure which is worse. At least the Vallenti is in proportion to the rest of the bass, just an unattractive (required IMO) design.

The new SX headstock certainly gives those two a solid run for the "out of place" looking headstock award.

This is good news for me...I have a tobacco-burst SX P with the old headstock that I'll let go for the paltry sum of $1000. Hey, can't get 'em anymore...mine's now a collector's item!

I saw your youtube video! you were demoing it with some tapewounds, which was what I was browsing for originally
I was impressed, especially with the new headstock! I searched "essex telecaster" but nothing came up, do you have a link to a thread??
Thanks!

Oh man!; If that were a "real" bass (5 string) I'd have not only already hit the "add to cart" button, but I'd have it on the bench adding a piezo somehow to the bridge. It would be a lot easier to add a piezo to this than a magnetic to my Carvin (cost a grand!). 5 string pickings are kind of sparse at Rondo these days.

Here's the thread that a fellow member started and that I contributed to (page 2 I believe). Both of us received the Pisces in and around the same time.

Glad the video was helpful, thanks.
