SX "Ursa" Basses?

I bought a SX clunker. Much wrong with it. Emailed Kurt with the details. He offered to take it back with full cash + shipping refund.
I kept it for a project as it was a $99 special.

BTW, you guys in or near Iron Mountain Michigan, Jim's has a lefty SX short scale Jazz bass in a burst finish...saw it today, looks like it is in great shape. Would have played it but wouldn't you know it? The guys made it upside down!

Makes me glad that I bought my SX pj bass a month before these new headstocks came into play, although it wouldn't be so much of a departure from the old ones if the pointy bit at the end was a little more round, hopefully they do change to different headstocks some time in the future.

I have played maybe one SX bass, and I thought it was okay...


I still don't quite know what the hype is about.

If someone wants to trade me an SX Jazz for my S101, I wouldn't say no :p. I just want to know what the big deal is.


They look nice enough.

For me what i love is the fact that I got a traditional P bass which sounds and plays similar to a Fender, at a great price.

It is a big deal to be able to buy a vintage looking and sounding P bass or J bass that doesn't hurt the wallet.

Hey guys, first post. I ordered an SX JB fretless 5 last night. I was wondering if the pickguard can be taken off (jaco style) or not because of routing? I also want to shave the ugly headstock to look like a G&L L-2500. by moving the D string tuner to the bottom then shave her. so?

That new headstock has killed all the GAS that I had for SX basses.

I think you may find the SX to be similar in a lot of ways to the S-101, except that the SX is built out of the more "traditional" Alder instead of whatever the S-101's are built out of. (basswood I think, if I'm remembering correctly) The Fender clones are just listed as "hardwood" by S 101, and a different finish on the necks.

For an inexpensive bass, the S-101's aren't bad at all either.
