SX "Ursa" Basses?

If your $500-$1500 Fender needs a warranty issue taken care of you have 12 months of limited warranty that covers its repair.

If you $109 SX needs a warranty issue taken care of you part out the original by selling the neck for $60, the body for $50.

Then you buy a new one, for $109, (or three or four).

Yeah and who needs a warranty? What can go wrong? These things are built like Fenders, no active electronics, just your basic wood, hardware and passive pickups.

Well, since my order at rondo didn't go through i might end up buying one of these Ursa basses (silver/white/maple). After i strip off the ugly orange I'll try reshaping the headstock like what Fajah did after i strip off the ugly orange or like what i've seen in a link in the SX thread, and if i don't like it, i'll just save up and get a new neck. Probably Mighty Might or something else not too expensive.

I wonder if they redesigned the neck joint to be standardized with Fender now... since it was always a hair off before, from what I read... never puled the trigger before, totally kicking myself for it now... but that Hollowbody Douglas has me salivating.

PS - LOL@ the "Real Bass = 5-string" comment - comedy genius. I don't need 5 strings to play, my friend. 5 extra notes do not make my world go round. The one 5-banger I have is strung with a HIGH B string... and I have not even played it in probably 4 or 5 years. Now my short scale 6 strings, well, that's another story...

Yeah, just got mine this afternoon. The headstock does look worse in the pictures on the sight. It's not too bad but i still might do some wood work, mostly just rounding off the nose. Pickups sound pretty good. Pretty firmly built, one miniscule scuff but since it's the silver finish you really can't see it. Silver finish looks great. I'll get pics up in the SX thread

I just got mine today. The action is pretty good, but you can set it a little lower if you want since they sent you a little wrench for that and the truss rod. Playability is exceptional and so is the sound. Best bang for buck i've ever experienced.

Actually, if your SX has a warranty issue, Kurt @ Rondo will take care of you quickly and make sure you are satisfied.

The orange color is annoying. I got an SX shorty J a few months back and a shorty rosewood and block neck to put on it. The maple neck that came off is for another project. I've seen people who have used citristrip to remove the orange and leave the poly. The orange must be a top layer.

My two necks are the old decent headstock ones, so I don't know if construction has changed, but I can tell you they're both very well constructed necks. Great fretwork, very solid and "hefty". Straight as an arrow. The block rosewood one went on my shorty Jazz with a set of hipshot ultralights and a set of Chromes. It's almost like cheating it's so insanely easy to play.

I'm more intrigued by this:

Emailed Kurt. He said he's expecting more basses around Thanksgiving time. I also told him he should consider scraping the new headstock design, he said "Not going to happen, whatever you're looking to buy, get it now before they're gone."

Burst are very difficult to photograph. My guess is that it looks better in person. I can show you three pics of each of my 3 tone Sunburst Fenders, and two will look AWFUL and one will look good. They don't even look like the same basses in some of the pics. They both look good in person.

My Old SX burst used to photograph reasonably well though. Go figure.
