SYDNEY GTG!!!

Hey Guys, its Sunday morning and i think its time for my gtg review so here goes.

There were so many things worthy of mentioning and here is some in no particular order.

The first thing that needs to be said is that I went there a little wary, not having done this type of thing before. Kinda like the first day at a new school... But everyone was very friendly and most welcoming. You guys are brilliant bass players too, so many things made the trip worth it and one was being able to watch and listen to you play and fiddle with basses. There was a lot of talent in the building.

The gear we had amassed was awesome. It was great being able to pick up a bas and compare it to another or to test drive some different amps, especially because where I live there is not much variety.

I need to thank bass people and pinnacle studios or financially supporting the event. Especially for bass people for letting me try their Alembic and (though I've forgotten what it was) for letting me play that amp, it was the nices sounding amp I've ever heard - also for the strings and that brilliant alembic t-shirt (brilliant literally and figuratively and soon to be my new avatar!). And to Pinnacle for running a shop for us while we were there too - great coffee!

There were some things I need to note about the gear. I now know what I want my next bass to be. Thank you Pete, I want a bass just like your Stingray 5H. I was wondering if anyone would notice if I put it in my pocket and discretely walked out... It has the most beautiful tone. To anyone who hasn't worked it out Pete is a great guy and a fantastic player and we all need to say thanks for organising the day. Well done, mate.

How could I not mention Evilgus's chapman stick. I did want to try it out but there was a slightly erotic element to all those straps and it was such a large instrument I didn't feel comfortable doing that in a room full of only men. I did take something of a voyeristic pleasure in watching evilgus strap it onto Luke. Anyone who has seen the pottery scene from Ghost knows what I mean, it was a special moment where we all felt connected.

For me the bass that was the bass of the meet was evilguss's MTD. Now I have a friend who once swam with the dolphins and she claims it to have been a significant personal and spiritual experience where she felt she truely communed with the dolphins. Can I say playing that MTD was my 'swimming-with-the-dolphins' moment. Evilgus your bass spoke to me, I know I can't afford it now but sometime in my future I hope to own one and my bass buying days will be over. It was an amazing bass.

Luke, if you got the mtd's measurements let me know when you can make me an exact copy for under a grand.

Thats all I can think of atm. I've gotta go to work and do the stuff I should have been doing yesterday.

A great time guys thanks.

Nigel.

Mate, I'm about to list most of my gear on ebay or trading post. I've got to make a home loan repayment in early December and my house is refusing to be sold - stupid world finincial crisis, someone should blow it up (crisis not the world). Not sure which one you were after the SWR or the EBS but if you were serious send me a PM. Hopefully I wont have to let everything go but the Bongo 5HH and the SX Fretelss 5 and the Green Fury 6 string will all definitely be listed too, though I wont sell all of it - just enough to make a house payment.

Hope you all like my new avatar!

Ok here we go. I'm new to this photobucket thing so please bare with me.........

Dnburgess from Bass People, playing a Ken Smith bought along by one of Evilgus' friends, Carl. Note in the background, Carl also bought a custom Kubicki which was awesome.
