Take it easy on new members!!!!!

If my joke somehow "encourages someone to commit violence against animals" then that person was already standing on the ledge ready to jump. I refuse to walk this world trying to avoid setting off already crazy people.

I have stayed out of this as a low clout member, but the above is the greatest remark I have read in a long time. I read it over and over again. Ah I just read it again...

As far as @two fingers jokes about kicking cats... let's just say I'm glad I'm not new here. I know he likes to be helpful, yet amuse himself in his usually fun & energetic wordsmithy ways by throwing in little barbs that he knows will stick in people's craws for a second or two... it's part of his charm, even ;) So I'm not gonna get all worked up about his cat comments.

I'd love to meet Twofer in person and let him buy me a beer, or vice versa

That said, I'd like to address this real quick >

An ex girlfriend had a cat I nicknamed Satan and it hated me most passionately. Claw, bite, poop in my shoes, a real asscat. Then one day the cat crawled into my lap as the X-gf was leaving for the laundry room to do its usual thing of attacking me as soon as she left the apartment. The xgf would always go "aw, Satanflower loves you so" just before leaving and that cat would purr and turn into a blood-letting Tasmanian poopiechbit when the door closed.

Except I stood up. That threw the cat off its game. We got the "aw..." from xgf and I said "and I love her, too" which surprised both of them

As soon as the door closed I spun quickly around in a circle about 10 times until the cat leapt from my arms, dizzy as Dean, and tried to run away but was so thrown off equilibrium that it ran to the left and into the couch.

Then it ran right into a table and fell over.

Then it made an attempted bee line for the bedroom but ran like a ship avoiding an submarine, falling over twice more before it misjudged the doorway and slammed into the wall, falling again before making it under the bed to safety.

Cat never bothered me again, but ran under the bed whenever I came over.
I'm glad you didn't kick or throw things at the little animal, but they're small & need to protect themselves.

I can practically guarantee that there was a failure in your approach to bond with kitty. If SatanFlower was already in your lap, you either went in for some petting with a heavy hand, or were trying to touch an area that wasn't comfortable for the cat for some reason.

I see it occasionally when people come over and meet ours. Mine loves people (but hates all other cats & dogs), but sometimes people's approach is wrong ... they make a beeline for her (mistake#1 - let them approach you. That's often why they gravitate to allergic people who avoid them first.)

Then they go in for some long hard pressed strokes from head to tail like their petting a dog (mistake#2), she likes her head rubbed (lightly), but not her body. Tho, some are the opposite in preference.

If she shows you the belly, it implies comfort & trust. Doesn't necessarily mean she wants you to touch it (mistake#3. You might have just lost some trust!)

Or you're lingering around there (or in the wrong spot) too long, especially with a heavy hand (mistake #4.)

Can't say for sure events didn't unfold as you told without having been there, but I'm going with user error from how I've witnessed dog people (or even some who love cats) handle their animals. My tortoise shell of Siamese descent won't let herself be manhandled the way my gal pal handles her hairless Sphynxs (I'm trying hard not to make a funny here )

Not everybody has to like cats, and others keep them around for purposes other than pets (& serving them as the little Gods they are )

I just wanted to be helpful to those who just might not understand their mispercieved motives ... they certainly don't respond to their human's whims like a dog.

Peace to all >^..^<

How is all of this talk of the cat in the hat not producing this pic?

You’re welcome. Geez, what a bunch of asscats!

Off Topic:
- I went through the adoption process with a feral cat for my ranch. We had cats for years and no mice, then the last cat disappeared and a few later, we had mice nesting in the air ducts of the vehicles we drove every day.

You have to keep feral cats caged for a week at the location to make sure they bond - which I thought was cruel. Despite the Cat Ladies strong advice, I let mine out at 5 days and he promptly took off. I felt really bad and the Cat Lady was "extremely disappointed" with me. But I started seeing dead field rats on the driveway, so Kitty was at work. Over the past three months, I have coaxed him out of hiding to where he comes up and wants to be petted - and fed - every time I pull up at the house. I spoil him rotten. Cooked Chicken, tuna, & Lil Friskies - as much as he wants. He is starting to come in my yard with the dog to be petted and that situation is settling down. I just hope the coyotes don't get him.

Now we return to our regularly scheduled animosity. PS. Dude, you lost the gig!

PS MY kitty is solid black with yellow eyes. I don't know the gender yet.

I'm glad you get my humor.

For the record, here's "Bray". My oldest daughter named him that because some kid at her school has it as a middle name and she likes it. He has six toes on both front paws. You might say he has an extra "two fingers". ;) He owns my yard and allows me to play in it from time to time. He's a good cat. I would never, ever, intentionally harm him in any way. This is actually a horrible pic of him because I couldn't get him to hold still. But, as you well know, sometimes kitty is not in the mood for the paparazzi. He's grey with just a hint of tabby showing hrough his coat in spots. I'm quite fond of him, actually.

To be honest, I firmly believe Satanflower was purposefully attacking, assaulting and pooping at me and then sitting there with a smug look knowing I couldn't do a thing about it.

I don't dislike cats and had several as a kid that I dearly loved, although I am allergic, plus a stray that wouldn't stay, but would hang out at beer:30.

My dog absolutely loves cats and wants one very badly to the point of bringing home the neighbors kitten. I've thought of getting her a kitten numerous times until the asthma kicked in.

Satanflower, however, was an evil spawn. The ex girlfriend turned out to be much the same.

Sometimes it difficult to "bite your tongue" so to speak.
Like when the first post is about plugging a 120 Volt amp into a 240 Volt power source.
Or if a newbie comes out swinging on day one.
Had one of these recently. In his initial post, newbie advised all of the [four letter word]s to not bother with a pissy reply.

When I first got here, I HATED the whole carrots thing that the then members held secret as if they were in a secret thieves guild. Now I still hate it, just a little less. Feeling like people are laughing behind your back sucks.
Good lord. I just re-read my last post and I sound like one of those ranting racist weirdos explaining why he's not racist.

I'm not a speciesist, am I?
This is starting to sound like the Anti-Dentite Seinfeld episode.
