I'm not a "do a search" guy anymore. I used to be, but never with new folks. Only those who had been here for a good while and should frankly know better. I truly don't get why someone who's been on TB for, say, five years, would start a P vs. J thread. That said, I just scroll on by now.

Also my experience is that using the advanced search features (MORE) will narrow the hits down to a more manageable number. Imagine that. Something on the inter-web that works! I also like Google [phrase] + TalkBass.

The guy got really worked up and as far as I could tell he never understood that I was messing with him. Be aware that kind of behavior is frowned upon here and can earn you negative points for trolling.

If some new bass player, or 50 year veteran bass player who just happened upon our community, asks what you think is a "stupid question" take a breath. Swallow your intense desire to berate someone and walk away.

We were all new once. We all had to find our way around here. We all had to learn about the search function.

Not everyone comes here knowing there's no "best bass for metal" or that underpowering cabs is a myth. The proper way to fire a drummer is something that takes years to perfect.

But they all come here with one thing in common. They are EXCITED about playing bass and discussing it with other bass players.

Don't be the jerkweasle that messes that up. Don't run somebody away from here just so you can get a jab in.

Go kick your cat or beat your kids if you need an outlet for your frustration. But don't bring that crap in here! :bored:

Once someone has been around the block a few times with this crowd, he/she knows all of our inside jokes and one liners about certain questions. But a new member might not understand that we're just having a little fun around a question that has been a bit of a sore subject.

Either help or go away. But don't be the TalkBass playground bully. It doesn't make you cool. It just makes you a jack@$$.

Edit: I am a sarcastic guy. I didn't literally mean "bully". It's not THAT serious. But the point is sometimes new guys don't know we're just being goofballs. So tread lightly.












(The part about beating your kids was, of course, a joke. Cat kicking, however, can be fun for the whole family if you do it right. ;))

There was a time not too long ago when I wouldn’t even step foot in the amps forums. Noobs would get torn to shreds by certain self important types that were foaming at the mouth to condescend, armed with whatever knowledge they learned that month from someone else who knew more than they did. A very unpleasant place. It’s better now, but not by much. It’s not so much that the techies there are bad people, it’s just that they’re very blunt and to the point by nature, I think. In any case, it’s all very informative, but not much fun. The pedal dorks can at least laugh at each other.

I'v been here a long time. But I recently put together my first pedalboard. I had avoided effects like you did amps thinking those guys would eat me alive.

Far from it. Those guys are some sarcastic, yet incredibly helpful, freaks! I love 'em!

I bet they'v been asked "What's the best dirt for metal?" as much as the rest of us have been asked about the best bass for metal. And yet they still maintain good humor while helping a noob out. They helped me out for sure.
