Have you been in the Ritalin again?Almost tagged someone for this, but I really don't want to antagonize the "I just discovered SJW'ing and am gonna drink eight bottles of Jolt, hop onto TB and do it to. the. maaaax." guy. You know what? You know who you are. To be clear, it's not Twofer. Go watch The Florida Project. These families exist in great quantaties in every city and town. The desperately unemployable. They are one of many groups worth you logging off teh inertwebz and putting your considerable energy into helping. Also needing help: ASPCA. Pick up litter or something. Wimminz like a guy who White Hats in real life. You can pick up chicks while canvassing with Sierra Club or your state's PIRG. PIRG chicks probably like sushi more than SC chicks. You're welcome, bro.
I have been hearing cat-kicker jokes since the eighties and have seen physical evidence that they've been around for quite a while before then- it is not exclusive to TB elite, or TB at all.
@IamGroot IIRC, the context of your situation, a hired gun, made that response pretty spot on, despite it coming short of the concept of needing to have the dirt there to hear/feel how deep to dig in to the strings. Had you been asking from the perspective as a featured artist or composer you likely would've gotten something else entirely.
I have hated some cats, and I have loved some cats. Dogs are better for everything but mousing and irritating cat haters. I have mostly only ever found the search function helpful in the classifieds. When I want some real deal reviews it's google>"site:talkbass.com blah blah stuff n crap". I have also directed a few folks with perfectly googlable questions to google their questions, but they are very few and far in between.
Witnessing people asking about instruments that are in at least two ways not comparable to a P or a J who are not trying to get the sound of a P or a J, or even a bass at all being told, despite there being plenty of knowledge on piccolo bass here "you should just get a P or a J and try it, you'll probably like it" is almost funny, but mostly sad due to their mostly being the same folks who didn't think within just a few seconds that the John Mayer sig bass could maybe possibly by chance be a gag.
I seriously doubt that any of the bullying is intentional and am certain that it is just plain old numbskullery for which no single thread nor new rule in the stickies can prevent.
For crap sake, guys. Lighten up on new members, will ya?
Every member's join date should be posted right under his/her avatar.
If some new bass player, or 50 year veteran bass player who just happened upon our community, asks what you think is a "stupid question" take a breath. Swallow your intense desire to berate someone and walk away.
We were all new once. We all had to find our way around here. We all had to learn about the search function.
Not everyone comes here knowing there's no "best bass for metal" or that underpowering cabs is a myth. The proper way to fire a drummer is something that takes years to perfect.
But they all come here with one thing in common. They are EXCITED about playing bass and discussing it with other bass players.
Don't be the jerkweasle that messes that up. Don't run somebody away from here just so you can get a jab in.
Go kick your cat or beat your kids if you need an outlet for your frustration. But don't bring that crap in here!
Once someone has been around the block a few times with this crowd, he/she knows all of our inside jokes and one liners about certain questions. But a new member might not understand that we're just having a little fun around a question that has been a bit of a sore subject.
Either help or go away. But don't be the TalkBass playground bully. It doesn't make you cool. It just makes you a jack@$$.
Edit: I am a sarcastic guy. I didn't literally mean "bully". It's not THAT serious. But the point is sometimes new guys don't know we're just being goofballs. So tread lightly.
(The part about beating your kids was, of course, a joke. Cat kicking, however, can be fun for the whole family if you do it right.)

There are actually new bassists? What the hell is wrong with them. Do they realize they're volunteering for decades of torment from guitarists?![]()

Sticky Fingers?...This should be made a sticky.
