Tal Wilkenfeld, who's like her?

OK, finally had time to watch Live at Ronnie Scott's. IMO, Tal is carrying herself like any other musician on that stage. She's dressed down in T shirt and jeans and obviously having a great time playing but decidedly she came to play and she's totally acing the gig. I can't believe I waited this long to check this out.
I don't think she's trading on sex appeal, but her very solid musicianship. Back in the Day Peter Frampton was sold as a Sex Object, but I saw him numerous times before Comes Alive and he was a serious, serious guitarist. I think she'd be doing something good regardless of gender or appearance personally.

+1, I saw Frampton with Humble Pie and the opening as a solo act for a lot of bands that came through NYC, he just killed. He also used to use the very underrated Ricky Wills on bass, awesome groover.

True enough, but I think we're talking about her unique musical " voice" and I agree! She has a certain "something" that makes her very pleasurable to listen to.

bassguitarhund, you really should read all the comments in detail, as WJGeer has done, before leaping to conclusions about "people attacking Tal"®.

Throughout this thread, there's virtually zero attack. Everyone cites her abilities as a very good player and no one in the posts faults her at all for getting great gigs. That would just be crazy bitter and illogical as a premise. But not everyone "worships" her on this thread, myself included, nor should they be obligated to. You seem to feel we all must tow the party line or be labeled "Haters" or some such... and that just ain't gonna happen.

again- is Tal a really good player? certainly. all others, particularly the non-acolytes like myself, have said as much.

hund, you should consider your argument against people being rude or "sexiest", as you say directly above (it's "sexist" actually, unless you were quantifying), and read this thread. there are no nasty, disrespectful attacks on here (with the exception of some poster who labeled all guys who make comments about Tal's physique "idiot dudes").

She's really good, totally pro, and not groundbreaking, either as a bassist or a composer. that's my opinion. hopefully it can be respected.

In my defense, I was commenting that she's a cute young woman. I knew nothing about a "boob scoop" until pages later. I can't say that's something I really noticed, I've seen a lot of men who wear the bass equally as high. Why should it be some sort of issue for a female to do it. I never gave her bass height a second thought. So my comment had nothing to do with that aspect, I assure you.

I think I can help sum up this crazy thread. A bass player friend pulled the music from Jeff Beck Live at Ronnie Scott's after we had a talk about Jeff Beck. He put it on a USB stick which I played in my car during a two hour drive. He mentioned how great this Tal Wilkenfeld is and I thought I've got to hear this guy play. I was blown away by his awesome tone, groove and devotion to the song. When I later watched the DVD and Tal turned out to be this cute 20 year old Aussie who has fantastic stage presence I was astounded. I soon got over my initial infatuation and back to appreciating what a top notch musician she is. Who wouldn't hire her? Don't forget its the whole package that counts. It's no different than appreciating Will Lee's showmanship.
