Tal Wilkenfeld, who's like her?

Yes, and Lee's point in the interview wasn't as a whiner but that he hadn't spent enough time and focus on his sound at that time, and it woke him up. He had a good perspective on it.

As one should, since you rarely get real feedback on what was wrong so that you can work on it.

I can't help but laugh at the idea that Tal's boob placement is actually strategy. That has to one of the most hilariously ridiculous ideas I've seen on this site. That girl is totally sexing it up and the rest of us peasants just can't see the conspiracy unfold right before our eyes! Prepare your tinfoil hats folks, she could start beaming subliminal messages straight our minds any minute!

I can't roll my eyes hard enough right now.

...and I can't help but laugh at how folks fall all over themselves over Tal! I'm sure that even she knows that if she didn't have that boob, well placed or not, this conversation wouldn't even be had. She is a decent player, that would get no attention if she stood to urinate. PERIOD. She knows why she is where she is. The only ones that are fooled are.....

Don't get me confused with a fanatic Tal lover. I like her just fine but I keep my pants on. I think she's a skilled player who deserves the praise she gotten. But folks like Joe Vegas who try to make her our to be some sort of insidious sexual force, holding the male libido in a nice, cosy chokehold are just too wild.

Also, stop playing with absolutes. It absolutely makes you and all the other people who use them look a lot less knowledgable than you'd hope to appear.

yep. Lots of conspiracy theories on this site with a dash of trolling I'm sure.

What did she do, steal your lunch?

and Kwesi.. i praised Tal's playing in depth and with utter sincerity, in an earlier post. But i do think the "b**b/upper horn combo" has been a not-accidental headlight for boy-deers in the bass forest. it sure hasn't hurt, in conjunction with being a skilled player. heck, it's practically a sidebar throughout various TW threads, in subtle ways and not so. hardly trolling.. just not PC to even mention, apparently. so be it.

I think she is a great player regardless of her gender!!! I am not saying that you are, or some of the other post for that matter are, but it does kinda come off as sounding some what sexist. At least a little. It is not like she is in a bikini up there playing. She is a women and has boobs. They are not detachable. What is she supposed to do!?!?! She has put a lot of hard work into getting her playing leval where it is at I am sure. Has played for some big names. How many of us have made it that far. I think she does deserve some praise and not bashing for how far she has made it. I for one respect her and her abilities!!

What are you, a guitarist? :p We're talking bass here - an instrument that, at it's best, is all about subtlety and nuance, not about chops (well, I guess there are a lot of people who would disagree at this point...). I can't help but wonder how you feel about guys like Lee Sklar, Willie Weeks, Duck Dunn, George Porter and countless other "hold it down" players who are held in such high esteem by so many in the bass playing world.

All the guy's you mentioned are held in high esteem but although it's a very different time as far as access to information, none of them was being over celebrated for doing what any good bassist can do.

Like I said before;it's actually sexist to make Tal more of a innovator than she really is,it smacks of "oh my gosh look at what that girl can do"

So, are they being over-celebrated as players now?

I don't think I've ever heard Tal referred to as an "innovator". She's a good, solid bassist and she's got everything she needs to fulfill the requirements of any of the gigs she's likely to be offered.

No the bassist mentioned are standard setters

The original premise of the thread was asking if there were any other players with Tal's skill set, when it was pointed out that there not only people with similar skill set's but superior one's the conversation switched to how "Soulful" Tal was which once again was portrayed as something unusual.

My point is let her be what she is,I know a lot of female musicians and most of them will tell you they just want a level playing field in people accessing their skill's
