Lately I am looking for a bass with more of a warmer/growley sound. So I narrowed my choice to 3. Please, do not suggest and ibanez basses, as, for some reason I have antipathy towards them - just don't like them. Negative experience with SR500, which is about half the base Washburn force 4 is, while costing TWICE as much, was enough to forever turn me off ibanez basses. In any case, here are the basses. You will notice they ALL have same things in common: they are passive and made out of basswood (warm tone). They are also all used and under 300.
1. Washburn T14. I already have Washburn Force 4 and Washburn XB400 (and XB500) I am a huge washburn fan, however I NEVER played or held T14 in my hands. This also has J/P pickups, which means upgrades on this WILL be much cheaper. Wilkinson and Warman costs less than EMG
.
2. Spector performer. This one I played - I love the warm and growley tone on it with rich mid range. However, schecter raiden custom 4 seems to have more features for same money.
3. Schecter Raiden Custom 4. Once again, passive basswood. Didn't play it, but it seems to have more.. features than Performer: laminate maple/walnut neck, rather than 1 piece neck, string through body. Not sure how much of a difference in sound it will make. However my string through body Force 4 has deeper sound than my XB400
4, Warwick Steamer. I played Corvette SS, but can't afford it. Might be able to afford steamer, has same MEC pickups but made out of some weird wood. A bit more expensive.
So if anyone has any experience or can offer me any advice, please, do. I am open to other basses, just not to Ibanez.
