Those pickups don't sound good (IMO), those switches totally suck, and those tuners are crap and should be replaced if you plan on gigging it. Other than that I got nothin'.

It was 100% Junk instrument new, and it didn't improve with age.

When I was starting out in the 70's, these 'Stamp Catalog Specials' were the only less expensive choice, I said ' not only no, but h*** no' and bought a new Ripper for my beginner bass.

That price, it's crazy for a plywood sled.
It works out to $125.59 per pound, which is unbelievably expensive for junk by the pound.

If you buy this bass for this price, then I want some of what you re smoking. I would say half the asking price would be reasonable, unless you just have a thing for Teisco basses.

I had a similar bass, it was alright, there's much to be desired from that hardware set up wise, those pickups are cool but really they're no better than jazz bass single coils, just slightly different, not really more low end just kind of flubby. I will say that it varies from pickup to pickup but some of these pickups when backing the tone all the way down gets so dubby, they sound crazy when running them into a fuzz. Kind of hit and miss, I've had a bunch of these old Japanese basses, I don't have any of them anymore and I don't miss them.

That's the thing. The pickups could be microphonic and those tuners may not be great.

I never saw the allure of those old Japanese basses, or guitars from that era. I remember playing them back in the day, or trying to play them. I was not very successful. But you do you.

It would not tune, so the dubbyer the better.

Yeah, no chance of it ever intonating correctly with that bridge.

It's cool to look at, but as a practical instrument, it is…not optimal.

That thing is super cool. Theres a luthier in town here who builds guitars modeled on that aesthetic. I believe he's done a bass as well? I've had a little fretwork and electrics wrangling done by him, and the results are fantastic, and he's a nice guy all around.

This short scale vintage Teisco has been up on Reverb for a while. I'm not usually that interested in old Japanese basses, but his one is giving me gas. I thought the big mahogany body would weigh a ton and put me off, but when I asked it's only 8.2 pounds. I certainly don't need it and it's probably way overpriced, but I still want it.

You've been through this before, and you know very well that it's just a new shiny object. By the end of the year, it will just be another bass, collecting dust and feeling sad because you're looking at another one on Reverb.
