I'm more than qualified to make a considered evaluation of MY situation. I'm a big boy. Again, that's just not something that you need to concern yourself with. Now you're stooping to calling me pathetic?

Apparently I'm not allowed to voice my opinion with getting called petty names.

As for the money spent, I already addressed that in the last reply but I guess you couldn't be bothered to actually read. Anyways, $4 is $4 (or whatever it was) and I value my money.

Several people have said this, but I'm curious; Are you referring to the Taptalk app, or the dedicated Talkbass app?

The dedicate app (on iPhone at least) was faster, easier to read, was less clunky, didn't require full page loads everytime you went back, was... The list goes on, but you see where I'm going with this. I never tried the Taptalk app, so I have to assume that's what people are talking about.

Don't know. I downloaded an app, tried it, it was lousy, deleted it and went back to the browser. I like using a browser much better. I still think it's no loss...and if there were site security issues, this makes perfect sense.

Just in time it seems, I received this yesterday :( :

On December 9th, we discovered that someone had used an exploit to compromise ourWordPress Blog and Tapatalk Support Forums, this lead to the disclosure of email addresses and passwords of some of our support forum users. All TapatalkSupport Forum account passwords were reset and all of our forum members were notified immediately.

As a precautionary measure for forum owners, on December 16th we also reset all passwords used to access the Tapatalk Forum Owner Admin Dashboard.

If you have not logged in since December 16th, please do so at your earliest convenience and choose a new password.


Next Steps to Take to Stay Secure:

  • Please choose a strong password, containing a mix of upper and lower case letters, numbers and even symbols if possible.
  • Refrain from using the same password on more than one site. Passwords should be unique to each site in order to comply with security best practices.
  • If you are an admin or moderator of a forum, please consider resetting yourTapatalk ID password as well. You can do so by editing your profile from within the Tapatalk app, or logging in on our home page through the "App User Login In" link and select "Reset Password".
  • Once logged into your Tapatalk admin console, please update your forum'sTapatalk API key. You may do so by selecting your forum and generating a new key to cut and paste into your forum system's admin CP.

The Tapatalk Support Forums have been restored, and as a precaution, rolled back approximately one week. As the situation develops we will keep you updated.

For your safety, Tapatalk emails will no longer contain links for password resets or any other tasks. If you receive any suspicious emails that appear to be sent by Tapatalk, do not follow any links and report the email to us as soon as possible.

If Im going to be able to enjoy talkbass on my phone at all without the app, some things need cleaning up.

(1) there is typically zero content above the fold, its all the massive TB hero, menus, an ad.

(2) the stickys all need to go away. Between those and the boilerplate Im 3 scrolls from content.

(3) how much do I have to pay to go ad-free? Not because I dislike ads but because real estate is so precious on my iphone4.

(4) thread photo thumbnails are great on the classifieds list view, but everywhere else they are not useful and consume a ton of space. Fonts are also excessively large/bold so almost every thread title wraps onto 2-3 lines.

The app experience was a B+, the current mobile web experience is a C-.

I've been on TB for a long time and glad to see the commitment to the community. If there's any notion I hope you guys aren't beating yourself up for having to make this decision. I'd like to think of you guys like an old mom and pop shop of community driven websites that's stood the test of time. Other communities are hitting the wall on mobile too. Whether it's niche service providers being expensive or unpredictable, or mobile OS fragmenting changes it is bubbling it's way up to people like yourselves (android/IOs released a new OS, 4k screens, communication layers, etc.). One service provider changes their service agreement and bam you're up the creek!

I see you guys are very committed to investing in the website (probably due to the best bang for buck). It's also seems to be where you can keep a lot of your core direction of talkbass close to your chest (without the worries of said service providers putting you in a hard position). However, I'd like to point out the fact that you guys know you're going to have to revisit a mobile app again and with the question of how soon. There's functionality there that a lot of people want (this post is a clear indicator of that).

Maybe an alternative to looking at a service provider is to look at a pipeline solution you can manage yourself that's aimed at mobile? Off the top of my head there a few big players getting into Apache Cordova (allowing you to stay very HTML5-ish) and open sourcing their mobile pipelines which manage a lot to what your old mobile app did (publishing / subscribing to posts). I know Facebook has their ReactJS / Flux which has been looking surprisingly simple to implement, Microsoft with recent additions to come soon, and I'm sure there are solutions being formed around Cordova with JavaFX in mind but they're usually more involved.

Anyways back to bass geek. Cheers and good luck!

This.

Completely agree with the security move, but on the mobile site the white margins around the message box in addition to the blue margins inside the box amount to a silly waste of space. The app was a zillion times better optimised for text display in general (lists of threads as well as threads themselves.)

I'm not going to leave or even reduce usage of the site, but I know I'm going to find this really irritating.

Ever since the site went responsive, I've used the site a bit more than the app. Yeah, a few things could be better, but I trust you'll do what you can to try to satisfy the die-hard app users. I'm glad you guys are putting security above all. I'd rather be mildly inconvenienced than deal with hacker fallout. Thanks for all your hard work!

The one thing i loved about the mobile app was it told me when a new reply was made to a thread i replied to or started.
I loved the app.
Worked better than the web page in my opinion.
Pisses me off to no end that it was canceled considering i waited almost a month waiting for updates to fix the bugs then it get taken away.

Yeah I would NOT recommend trying to use the retro style on mobile.....

Yeah, sorry guys, should have tried that. Retro (while I like it for the main site) doesn't work well on the mobile.

EDIT: Oh no, don't tell me that when I change the style on the mobile, it also changes the style on the computer. Why ? Oh well, it's a lesser evil than Retro style on the mobile app I guess.

Have u tried the Dark style? It's easy on the eyes and mobile friendly.

It is a new (Sept 14) tablet and cable wi-fi.
I think it is all the Google ads slowing it down. Any kind of surfing on it is never as fast as my iPhone but it works fine under normal surfing. Sweetwater, MF, CL all load and work fine but TB is way to slow loading. I get big ads showing everything I looked at on Sweetwater of MF.
