TalkBass App To Be REMOVED/DELETED [security concerns]

I'm sorry you're having problems, to be honest you are the only Android user reporting slow site rendering / upload issues so far. I've tested the site using my nexus 7 and wife's Htc One. I was able to see forums render quickly, create a thread with uploaded pic from within same browser without issue. I just did it again to verify.

Given you have fast enough connection, it's got to be your phone. Have you considered trying a factory reset/restore? Prior to the Htc One my wife had a galaxy sii and it slowed down considerably over the two years she had it.

So basically as an Android user I have to use the forum fiend app to be able to browse with any kind of speed that makes the site bearable, but switch over to a Firefox browser and open the site if I want to post anything, and if I want to post a picture I have to email it to myself and wait until I have access to a laptop or desktop and post from there. This is a total cludge!
Is ANYTHING on the horizon as a remedy?
For the first time in my history in Talkbass I am thoroughly disappointed. Even harmonycentral, which has been irrelevant for years, has a dedicated mobile site that WORKS. Come on guys!

Did you try any of the device optimizing links I sent? This site is hardly a resource hog! It's lite on data and I can find no reason why it would slow your device to a crawl.

It's fast enough with forum fiend, but alot of functions dont work thru it. But posting pics works on no platform ive tried be it forum fiend, Firefox, I.E.,or chrome.
I think im not the only one having a poor user experience on android. Many have chimed on about that, and I suspect many more are more desktop/laptop users than I and just dont notice or care as much as someone tied almost solely to mobile.

It sounds like your Galaxy sii has slowed to the extreme of not being able to deal with simple JavaScript. Strip the JavaScript and you lose functionality like u said.

Not exactly streamlined...:

Why HC would work better on your phone, I have no idea. I'm sorry I'm at a loss :(

i am in the same boat as the eyeballkidd. very slow in browser, forum fiend speeds it up, but missing functions, multiple posts, etc... so i just use it for reading.

4g and or wireless. It's not slow to the point I can't use the browser, but it's not zippy like the app was, or like it shows up in forum fiend. I can't figure out why it would be different. I use the 'Web view' in forum fiend. I would say, as a guess, it's 1/2 speed in the browser.

Paul,

I read your post, and the first page of the thread, skipped the rest. Just want to say that I applaud your decision, for a few reasons: One - security matters. No one should expect or gaurentee complete security on the internet, it doesn't exist. But neither does that mean that it's not important. Second, I, for one, LOATHE the tapatalk app - NOTHING is more infuriating than being bombarded by 'download our app!' messages on my phone browser when I am looking for information on my phone. Especially as it is not like I can install the app, and connect it to each of my different forums, and be able to read them all in one place. (Despite the issues that concept has, as well.) Nope- they want you to install a seperate bloody app for EACH forum that you frequent! WTH do I need 5 copies of the SAME CODE! running on my phone, taking up precious memory? BAH! Good riddence! I'm probably in a minority with my comments, and can appreciate that many people appreciate the convienince of the app.

Anyway, thanks for making a tough decision, and thank you for landing on the side of security.

I'm sorry for the many questions, but I'm trying to find anything I can to help. Can you find out what version of Firefox you're running on your phone?

I think it's time to step up and thank Paul for his security concerns. I too, enjoy the mobile app, and I use it every day while sitting in my truck before work. I am also the victim of a bank account security hack, and the dead that went with living with that. I know our data at tapatalk is probably less sensitive than my bank has, but people out there can get limited information and build upon it and then do some real headache damage. I do hope Paul can find another avenue to deliver the mobile TalkBass to us, but until then; I for one am totally in his corner. Thanks Paul.

I ran some tests.
Firefox is the slowest, but not by much. Chrome is slightly faster.

By slow: on clicking a link, Firefox takes 2-3 seconds to load the page. Chrome 2ish (maybe slightly less).

Forum fiend is the fastest by far. Pages load instantaneously.

So I started digging into the differences. There is one obvious one. It's all the ads you guys have on here. They are dumping the performance of the Web page on mobile devices. My S4 is no slouch. Forum fiend doesn't display the ads.

I doubt you'll remove the ads, but at least I understand now.
