Talkbass weight loss challenge?

This is an interesting idea. I'm going the other way however. I'm currently 6'0, 215. Hoping to be 225 by football workouts in August. From lifting 4 days a week, paired with a series of agilities and sprints I'm hoping that I can in a sense gain about 20 pounds - just losing 10 pounds of fat in the process.

Count me in. I just started exercising again this week. I'm at 221 lbs right now and at 5'4", that is just too much. I used to be a gym rat back in college 10 years ago and weighed around 130-140 lbs, but stopped exercising regularly when I graduated. I've started exercising on and off the past few years but never really got serious again. What prompted me to be serious again is that my 6 month old daughter is growing too fast :). I'm afraid I won't be able to carry her well or run after her by the time she's walking due to my weight.

Since I left my ex-wife a year and a half ago I went from my all time high - 190lbs at 6' tall down to 168 at last weigh in, less than a week ago. I'm 3 lbs shy of what I weighed when I graduated high school 8 years ago. Since Ive started excersizing more recently I'm hoping to stay around where I am, but add some muscle.

I went from 220 and 6'3 now Im at 265 and just started going back to the gym due to my smaller frame I should be at 190-200ish lets do this..

My problem is junk food love soda and pizza and you know the tasty stuff anyone get around the addiction of junk food ?? Should I just go cold turkey ?

Yes, cold Turkey is much better for you than most fast food.

I'm in.

I'd say I'm about 237 right now and would like to drop 20 lbs, at least. Although I'd probably settle for being 220

one trick I used before - to get off soda... back when work actually bought treats and sodas for us and had them stocked in the fridge, it would be real tempting. but I had to cut back, so I would tell myself, I can have a soda, but first I have to drink two cups of water. What ended up happening was that I'd just drink more water, and not want the soda.

try it.

I know it can be hard, especially when you order fast food, and their "meal" consists of fries and a soda (what's that about 1000 calories by itself?)

The other thing I would say works, is try replacing a few meals a week with just soup. Soup is a sure fire way to lose weight. well, that and excercise.

or the whole, lots of protein meals, cutting back on carbs. you can speed up your metabolism by eating protein a few extra times a day.

You all are too skinny. Don't ask how much I weigh but I can tell you I'm 2 or 3 of you. My doctor is recommending gastric bypass, I'm that fat. The thing is though, I really don't eat much and I work a physical job. It's just that my metabolism, with my thyroid, has allowed me to gain so much weight so fast that it was too late to control it once I started gaining it. I've finally got it to a point to where I'm not gaining and to where I'm starting to lose a little here and there but at this rate I'll be back at my normal 200 when I'm 170 years old.

everybody should be eating more, but in less portions and better quality...

eat something every two hours... the morning should have all your carbs and calories, mid day should have all your protien, and the evening should end with more carbs....

and everybody, remember, calories and carbs are good...

Empty calories = bad
wholesome calories = good
(read the back of some packaging's....it will say "total calories" then next to it you will see "calories from fat")
thats because a calorie is a unit of energy, not a unit of fat. your body needs x amount of calories to function, just make sure your wholesome calorie intake heavily out weighs your empty calorie intake...

simple carbs = bad
complex carbs = good
white bread and rice are high in simple carbs..... greens and fruits are high in complex carbs... but fruits have a high sugar count, so eat them early in the day, you will get a nice boost thru out the day...

and you eat complex carbs about 2 or 3 hours before bed time, it takes a little while to break down so it keeps your metabolism going while ur asleep...

the best way to speed up your metabolism is to put it to use... "3 meals a day" is actually a bad idea lol

I'm about 255-260lbs at 6ft4. I'm fairly broad and have a decent level of muscle mass (been training for competative weightlifting). I do need to drop the excess fat tho. Since finishing my masters and starting my PhD I've piled on the weight. (I was at ~225lbs (September last year . . .), ab's were showing through, not ripped by any stretch, but def. not as overweight like I am now!).

Really need to make more time for going to the gym these days. The 12 hour days in the lab & office, reading, writing and burning stuff doesnt leave much time. Usually pretty burnt out aswell. Anyone else got a hectic week-week schedule?

I'm in.

Starting this week, I've got my exercise program going. I just set up the treadmill and weight bench in the basement and I'm going back to martial arts practice twice a week. And as soon as the snow melts, I'm back on the bike trail. Oh, yeah . . . . .
