Talkbass weight loss challenge?

I guess I'm in. But I've got a good head start.

I started at 285 in 2006.

I'm currently at 170.

So I'm at a total loss of 115.

I cut out a lot of junk and just eat healthy. I lost most of it just by doing that. The last couple of months I've been hitting the gym again. I try to run about 2.5 miles per work out (about 3 to 4 times a week), and then hit the weights for 40mins to an hour.

My goal weight is 160. That's what the doc said I should optimally weigh. I don't think I've weighed that much since maybe the 7th grade!

I'm 5'11 and weighed 185-190 until my sophomore year of college. Got depressed, stopped exercising, ate like crap and got into a really unhealthy relationship. After a couple years I weighed about 255.In the last 1.5 years, I have cut that down to the low 230's, and have been making efforts to eat much healthier, and I go to the gym now.

One thing that made weight loss difficult for a long time with me, was that I was dating absolutely stunning girls when at my biggest, which only promoted laziness. haha

my goal is to once again hover around 200, and feel healthy. A good method of motivation I have found, is to make athletic commitments. I am doing a 5k in July, another in August, and might begin training for a half triathalon taking place in July. I am definitely into this idea....lets get serious about it, everyone!

Grady King-currently 24 years old, 5'11 and weighing in at 231.5 lbs.

If Biz Markie and Stephan Baldwin can do it, so can we!

I am 170 right now. I have cut all pop out of my diet. I am trying to lose weight with Subway. I do the Jared thing and get a 6" turkey for lunch and a 12" veggie for dinner. I also run and lift weights. Hopefully it will have some effect.

That's a good way to do it. Cutting out soda will make a difference.

I'm at a point now where the last 10lbs to my goal is going to take a while. The first 50lbs was fast, the next 50lbs was still pretty fast. The last 10lbs from 180 down to 170 took a while. Going to the gym has made me actually plateau because I'm building muscle as I'm burning fat. Which is a good thing.

All you TB'ers out there that want to lose the weight, just do you best to stick with it. You have to make it a lifestyle change and make eating healthy a routine. You guys can do it. I'm just posting in here to give you some inspiration and let you know it can be done.

It's similar to bass playing, set small goals that you know you can achieve with work, and when you get there set the next small goal.

Here's a tip for all you night time snackers: Keep your practice amp and you bass in the living room. When you have the urge to snack, grab you bass and start to practice. This is what I do and after I start to practice I lose the urge to needlessly snack. I think that the urge to snack isn't really brought on by hunger, as much as it is brought on by feeling compelled to "do something".

To be honest, it seems almost impossible to be 6' 180 and have 1/3 body fat, I'm not saying it can't happen, but most 6' people are healthy at 200. "Skinny fat" I've heard it dubbed, where a person isn't actually fat looking, but is still unhealthy.

Anyways I'm in, I went from 190 to 220 after not being able to leave work to work out. Computer programming.... just sitting on my butt all day.

My current changes are just no eating at fast food and most restaurants. I really need to exercise.

I think it's skinny fat. I'm really not fat, if you saw me, you'd think I lied, but my moobs are growing :atoz:.

Blender, I think the key is to start slow. I have a treadmill in my living room so I can walk while I'm watching my DVRd tv shows. I've got a nice 2 mile square neighborhood that I can walk the dog around when the weather gets a bit warmer.

40 years old, 6"3' 308lbs. I've never been over 300 in my life. My idea is to be under 300 by my 41st birthday. (May 4)
