Tall Font Russian vs. Grey Stache

I just got a Bumble Fuzz, really by mistake as Prymaxe had it listed in my overdrive query, but it's a very happy mistake. With the drive all the way down and the excellent clean circuit it does work as an overdrive, albeit a pretty fizzy one.

As a fuzz it's great, the tone knob changes the character as well as EQ of the fuzz signal in a great way, and the clean is the best clean of all of my pedals. I greatly prefer a clean volume plus a distorted volume (or gain, or whatever the designer might call it) rather than a blend knob. Just my preference.

Which brings me back to the TAFM. You should check this one out, very versatile and sounds fantastic. Unless you are dead set on a Muff, you might like the TAFM.

Since you want to cut through I'd also check out the Blackout Musket. It's basically a civil war muff with a few added controls including mids.

I've played through a ton of muffs and it's the only one I've still got.

Currently checking out Musket and TAFM! I thought narrowing it down to two would make my decision easy, I was so wrong...

My friend, the TAFM is all that and a bucket of chicken. So versatile, and apparently impossible to dial in something that sounds bad. It just stands up so well in the mix.

I may have been facetious saying you can't dial in a bad sound, but the TAFM is one pedal I will tweak real time during performance specifically because I find it pretty easy to dial in and while changes sound different, they still good and continue to carry. Not like the Swollen Pickle where a slight tweak might completely remove you from the mix!

I'll second the Musket, but I'd also like to put forth the pedal that knocked the Musket off my board, the Skreddy Supa Tone. I very much regret selling mine, and I'm curious about the new version he's making now.

And the fuzz decision is NEVER that easy ;)

I don't really care if the pedal has massive low end, just needs enough. I'm definitely more concerned about cutting through. So far the Grey Stache is ahead, which is alright with me since I can get one for about $145US on Reverb.

That's the normal price for a new one. I'd get one direct from Fuzzrocious so you can choose color option and add mods if you want. I agree, the tone bypass is very useful, the diodes is not.

The only problem with ordering direct is $35 shipping to Canada, which is about $20 more than I've ever had to pay to ship a pedal. But yeah, I've already looked at getting custom artwork and everything. It basically comes down to $150 for a used non-custom one or $200+ for a custom one.

Check Chicago Music Exchange. They have modded stock usually available and their shipping is more reasonable than direct from fuzzro.

the blackout musket is another one to check out. its a sovtek muff clone but super tweekable. it has 6 knobs one to control your pre gain one for the tightness of the fuzz. it can go super raunchy and then squishy and muffled sounding if you are into that sound. and it also has a mids knob that makes all the difference for a bass fuzz...

I personally use a Stomp Under Foot Civil War as it's about as close to the old Russian Muff's you can get in a modern build.
I also have an SUF Civil War on my board. It replaced a W&C TFR, because the Civil War did everything better. Fuller lows, clearer treble. The volume and gain on tap both were double the TFR, the tone range was wider. The CW could do all the sounds the TFR could, and more.
SUF now does a Civil Unrest, a Civil War with midrange control.

In the Breeder thread, we brought up how lame it is when manufacturers make money off of shipping. Fuzzrocious charges $50 for one pedal to Europe which is beyond outrageous. And it makes me not want to give them business - even if the Rat Tail is pretty much exactly what I need.

On a different point, I just added a Muff to my arsenal for the first time and I got the COG effects Tarkin Bass Fuzz. I haven't received it yet, but the videos are pretty awesome.
