TapeWound Club~Anyone?

A while ago I replied that I might try La Bella White Tapes if I were to get a Squier Precision V. Well, I've gone in a different direction and now have a Schecter Raiden Special-4. It currently has nickel rounds (possibly Ernie Ball) which I have a love/hate relationship with.

I'm thinking I might get D'Addario Tapes for it. I've got D'Addarios on my Ibanez AEB5E (and La Bella DTF on my Squier Standard Precision V from 2001) but I'm loving the Tapes all over again! Just might have to get a set for the Schecter..

I am using tapes on several of my basses, mostly Daddario and Pyramid.
There is something i don't like with the Daddarios - despite the tape cover their tone has that piano like ringing reverb which i do not like.

So i am searching for some similarly voiced, possibly a tiny bit brighter black tapes (shortscale!!!!) which do not have shorter sustain (i.e. unlike the Pyramid tapes with their special tone). I also would like to have a stronger string tension. And no, the Fenders do not fit...

How do the GHS from recent production compare the Daddarios? How the LaBellas and the Rotosounds?

And the answer is: La Bella Regular Gauge White Tapes. GHS go the other direction, both tonally and gauge-wise for fit. Contact Jason for the right string length fit.

Had Fender tapes on my old de-fretted Gibson Grabber for years. Since starting to play more a few years ago I've picked up a few more basses and have tapes on both: GHS on my fretless Squier P and LaBella whites on my SX Jazz, also fretless. Just picked up a slightly used ESP/LTD 214 (PJ unlined fretless). It came with a set of generic rounds and, although the sound was surprisingly decent, there was already some wear on the rosewood board. Did a shielding job on it and I threw on a spare set of Fender tapes but I've been spoiled by the smoothness of the LaBella and GHS. So today I ordered two sets of LaBellas - blacks and copper whites. Found a great deal at Elderly Instruments - 10% off and free shipping - came to just under $28/set. One set will go on the ESP/LTD and the other will go on the Gibson. Love those tapes!

I did the same thing.

My black tapes on my Rob Allen are over 6 years old and I think it is time to try something different. I ordered new black tapes that will likely go on a fretted 5er, copper whites for my RA and white tapes for my Precision.

I am a SS round-wound guy generally, but the LaBellas definately add something to my bass arsenal and are extremely fun to play!

I did the exact opposite: I liked the tapes so much I changed out the passive electronics in my gigging bass for EMG soapbars in order to take advantage of no ground necessary, optimal noise floor, and ease of going direct.

I have La Bella black tapes on a Jay Turser semi hollow and it sounds and plays great. So far it is my favorite set of strings compared to regular D'Addario flats on a G&L and round wounds on a Carvin. They may all end up with tapes on them at some point.

How about a #?
