Tattoos

Well, it's my birthday on Sunday and I think I'm going to go get my first tattoo on Saturday. It will be an Autobot logo on the back of my right calf. Lame? It's one thing to grow up loving a cartoon, but it's another to get it drawn on you for the rest of your life. I still want to do it. Straight black though.

I also have some other ideas for down the road that I'd like to throw out there and get some input on. Only because a lot of them are ripping off a few people. First, I want to get "Whatever it Takes (star)" across my back. Pretty big, all the way across. If you don't know it's written on Tom Morellos acoustic guitar. He's always been my biggest influence (yes, a guitar player). And I've always done whatever it takes to get what needs to be done, done. Again, bad idea?

The next one also steals from Tom Morello. His newest project, Street Sweeper Social Club, has a kickass logo. The album came out today. It's playing right now. Badass CD. I suggest you go pick it up. But anyway, the logo is badass. I can't think of a spot for it yet. Any ideas? Another bad idea? Right hip?

The next one is bass related. Bass clef on the outside of my left calf.

I also want to get a "Z" on my ribs. Right side, under my arm. It's my last initial.

What do you guys think? Which of these are just plain stupid? I've put a lot of thought into some of them. And I'm still unsure. It's permanent after all. Some of them are just ideas I'm still just tossing around.

The EHX logo would be cool,....I think only FX subforum Denizens would get the bonekrushing thing. The All Black Autobots thing is lame IMO. Better to do it in the original color form.

I suggest you put some more thought into what you want. Think about where you want to go with your Tats. Are you just getting them to fit in with your crowd? Do you want "sleeves"? "pants"? < for those cases I think it is important to either get something big, or stick to a genre that is large enough that a bunch of small tattoos and some filler will not look so disjointed.

If you like the Transformers thing (I don't dig on big black tats,...too tribally) Get the Autobots symbol done in color with some universe looking back ground and portraits of some of the Autobots (old school cartoon, not that shite movie).

The EHX logo is badass. The BONEKRUSHING thing is just an idea. I really don't dig the original red to blue fade. The black looks much better to me.

I don't want to be completely covered. Just a few things here and there. And I'm not getting anything on my arms. Everything should be covered by a T-shirt and a pair of pants. I don't know why, but that's just how I want to do it.

Tastes change. Tats don't. Give your choices a lot on thought. Or, just go for it.

I wouldn't get any tattoos without sitting on the idea for at least six months. My first tattoo was one that I had decided on for almost a year before I got it done, and my second took almost three.

I wouldn't recommend NOT getting any of those tattoos, but the odds are that if you get a copycat tattoo, you're going to get tired of it eventually. Instead, do some research and find a tattoo artist in your area whose style you really like, who works at a good shop. Talk to him about what you want and have him draw something up for you. I think that a full, detailed portrait of Optimus Prime would be pretty BA.

Also, any tattoo shop worth going to isn't just going to be able to fit you in when you walk in. Any show that CAN do that, especially on a saturday, is a shop that you want to avoid at all costs. Most decent artists are going to have at least a couple of weeks' wait before you can get in to have work done.

The "Whatever it Takes...STAR!" is incredibly lame. Taken out of context it is just plain dumb. Sounds like a bad "motivational" poster, like "Hang in There!"

The EH logo, fine, if you wanna be forever emblazonned with a company logo...

The Z, I don't think it terribly great either. I mean, you already know your name, is it that important to brand yourzelf with it?

It's not unacceptable to get an emblem tattoo, but the odds are that if you have one (especially something from a popular band or pop culture item) someone else will too.

I look at tattoos as very personal, meaningful symbols that show something significant about the person wearing them. It's hard to look at a symbol that you've seen on TV or a cover of a CD and say "Wow, that tattoo really symbolizes who that guy is."

And yes, a full portrait of Optimus Prime would be overkill, but it would be overkill of AWESOME. Seriously, go big or go home.

This has nothing to do with the movie. I didn't particularly like it. This has to do with the original cartoon. Which I grew up watching.

When I was a teenager and in my twenties I swore I'd never make it to 30. I just knew I wouldn't. And look at me now....Here in a couple of years I'll hit the half century mark.

Don't anticipate not being around long enough to look like a sun dried prune. But also don't let that stop you from getting the tat you want either. Speaking of personalized, meaningful tattoos, my next one is going to be a bass clef, with the clef being the first letter of my son and daughter's name: Christopher and Clarissa.

Here's my £0.02:

At 18 you are barely qualified to make any decision that will permanetly affect your life. Don't take this the wrong way, but at 18 everyone is an immature idiot. Unfortunately it will take roughly 5-7 more years to figure this out for yourself. In some cases, it may take up to 12 or more years. Sadly the way society is set up, turning 18 brings certain rights as well as the need to make certain semi-permanent choices about your future (ie which career path you will start to head down). Its trite to observe that many people aged 25 or older will say "if I was 18 again I'd do this differently". At 22 you are a very different person than at 18, at 25 you are different to the person you are at 22. Look at it in reverse, at 12 were you into the same stuff you are now at 18? Of course not, and that is the same difference between now and 25. My point is that at 18 you swtich from having very little say in your life to having the ability to make a lot of decisions that will affect your life permanently. You'd be smart to hold off making decisions that truely are permanent until you get a little older and a little more mature. IMO.
