Agreed, I am just hoping that enough big artists will step up and find a better alternative to those vendors.

Yep. Neil Young won’t even use the main vendors. Last time I saw him, limited to four tickets and all tickets picked up at Will Call starting an hour before doors opened with a valid picture ID. He’s trying. But he isn’t what I’d call a big artist anymore.

It’ll take acts like Taylor Swift, the Stones, McCartney, and Springsteen, plus some help from Congress, to change the current climate. I’m not holding my breath.

Maybe I read it too quickly, but I didn't see all that much in the piece. It seemed like a recitation of the music business's familiar current dysfunctions, with a rather vague plea that maybe the superstar of the moment can change them somehow. Swift is raking in tons of cash these days, and she may have her heart in the right place (or may not - you never know what's sincere and what's PR with public figures). But I don't see any more sign that this augurs a structural change, any more than the Beatles opening the Apple label did.

The main problem, as I see it, is that when there are major tours of acts “boomers” want to see, we’ll pay exorbitant prices because we can afford it. Or the parents of “Swifties” and the like can afford it. But. There are a lot of local bands playing small venues that have reasonable ticket prices. Using SoCal as an example because that’s where I am, I support local artists like Silversun Pickups, Sleepy Hollows, Wand, Pearl Charles, Mike Watt, and others. Ticket prices are very reasonable. And the music is fabulous.

Pearl Jam tried to take on the ticketing agencies. Phish bypassed the ticketing agencies.
I don't care for her style, but I have nothing against her. If she can topple Ticketmaster and Live Nation I'll campaign for her presidency.

Not my cup of tea, but I admire that she seems very smartly deliberate in the things that she does. That's one artist that's never going to end broke and stupid, and good for her. Plus I totally admire that if she gets screwed out of her masters, she speaks about it publicly, her more-than-devoted fandom gets it, goes back in and recuts everything with additional goodies (thereby 86-ing sales of her former stuff), and laughs all the way to the bank.

And BTW, she did 3.5 hours here in Nashville in steady, heavy rain. Gutsy.

I watched her Tiny Desk Concert and while I didn’t care for the music, it was obvious that she is a talented writer with something to say.

I don't know that the ticket thing was her fault as much as Ticketmaster and the greedy secondary market.

Well, other artists (such as the Cure) did manage to sell tickets to their shows on TicketMaster without dynamic pricing and with no secondary market (where it was legally possible).

So, either Taylor Swift does not have as much leverage against TicketMaster as the Cure do (which seems unlikely to me), or she was just happy to cash in.

So, my opinion, I believe she’s a good songwriter, a great performer, and an amazing business person, but she’s not going to revitalize live performance more than Barbie revitalized the movie industry.

I'm in my daughter's 11's, enjoying Katy Perry, Dua Lipa and Alicia Keys - I know, she's for sure the real deal among the others but never enjoyed her before I looked for something real for my daughter to balance her choices.

We also irradiated her with all our Metallica, ACDC, Tool, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and the other big names but at the moment she didn't discovered T Swift. Better this way.

The secondary market is probably more of a cause than anything else. The “bots” that buy up tickets with the intention to sell for as much as possible. Not illegal I guess but…
